Rather than start another thread on Jonathan's pre game comments I thought I would tuck this in there for all those demanding souls who are concerned that The Franchise has lost his edge.
Leaving the complex around 10:30 one Sunday night he decided to drop by the training room to weigh himself. The area was in darkness but he could hear Pearl Jam blaring so he walked in to see who was training in the darkness and found Tommy jumping rope drenched in sweat. It was the first time Jonathan had seen him though he knew he was due back the next day. Tom told him he was glad to be back, it was time and he was ready.
This exchange was based on one of them asking if Tom needed rest more than competition for a parking spot. Jonathan said that the demands on Tommy on and off the field given his three rings and profile are such that the important thing was recharging his battery. He does not think that would have happened had he spent the off season working out at Gillette. He also said the trainers told him that Tom reported in fantastic condition, so whatever else he was doing he was working out thoughout the offseason. And he added the observation that while last season it was imperative that Tom be here to build a foundation with an entirely new set of offensive weapons, some of whom missed significant time in TC due to injuries which necessitated developing timing on the fly as the early season unfolded, all of them are returning this season in tact with a record setting season under their belts.
One other line of questioning was the SB. He said he'd had a bad feeling about it for about a week. He feared the Giants had nothing to lose and would play the game of their lives. Early on as the bounces failed to go our way, that feeling deepened. He also mentionted as he has in prior interviews elsewhere his belief that the team was ready for this game a week before it occurred but over the course of the second week they seemed to lose their edge or focus somewhat. Not to make excuses but as someone who went through that week on the inside he clearly indicated that he believes the weight and magnitude of going undefeated finally caught up with them right around the time Tomase pulled that story out of his ass.
