Since one of the tapes were of the AFC Championship game in 2002, no doubt Arlen Specter will use this as a rallying cry to say that he needs to investigate it more. Since it was professionally edited, it supports the Pats claims that they don't use the tapes in games. But I assume that won't stop Specter.

Remind yourself - the rule in question was only made stronger in 2006.

Unless I'm mistaken, before then the rule was pretty clear about taping for the purposes of that game were prohibited.

How could the Patriots violate a rule in 2002 and before that didn't exist until 2006?

As long as Jolly Roger sees no further action needed then Spector is 100% irrelevant.

Didn't he just have a cancer relapse or something? I think getting healthy is probably his top priority right now. I doubt we are very high on his list of worries.

I agree Spector will makes some stupid announcement, but its moot.. 2000-06 show me in the nfl bylaws that this was illigeal... Like I said advance scouting...

There's something from the legal document in the Walsh testimony that is sure to ire fans outside of New England.

In Section 1, part b:
"in no event shall any Tangible property (or copy thereof) in the possession or control of Walsh or such counsel be used for any commercial purposes or in any manner that could reasonably be expected to be disparaging to the NFL (including the Club)or the NFL's or the Club's current and former owners or employees"

"and in no event shall Walsh or his counsel make any Document copies or other Tangible Property available to any third party without the NFL's prior written consent"

In other words, both sides have agreed that these tapes will never be seen by us, the public. That is something that a lot fans have been wanting to see and this will result in a lot of people once again screaming "cover-up" - regardless of what Walsh does or does not have.

No, not both sides. Read your quote again carefully and see that only Walsh may not release the tapes.

Walsh's lawyer wanted to keep a copy of the tapes for the possible future protection of his client, and the NFL said yes, but you cannot release them to the public.

There is nothing preventing the NFL from releasing the tapes, though I doubt they will.

I hope this time Goodell keeps the tapes, to shut people up.

I wish he would have them playing behnd him during his press conference, just so everyone could see what they are and STFU about it being "spying".

He will be meeting with Walsh next Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Walsh is scheduled to speak with Commissioner Roger Goodell and Senator Arlen Specter in separate meetings.

Thanks for catching that, I missed that.

Remind yourself, we cheated and got caught.

Remind yourself, we broke a rule. Cheating is different, it is breaking a rule and using it to a competitive advantage. Players and coaches break rules every game. All game. Not the right word. News flash, there is zero evidence of this happening, and the description that was just received actually supports that. While I'm in a rare mood, and you're a newb who has been a douche about this at least twice in 2 threads that I've read in the past 10 minutes, I'll say the same thing I said to Fanetic. Eat a D!ck.

Remind yourself, we cheated and got caught.

Remind yourself of all the other teams that have cheated (i.e. got caught breaking rules) (start here: http://www.thesportgallery.com/sport-stories/1967aug-nflspy.html)

Remind yourself that the Broncos, under a very lax Tagliabue Administration were fined MUCH more than the Patriots were.

Remind yourself that more than 30 years ago the Dolphins lost their 1st round pick for cheating under Don Shula

Remind yourself that the Bears and other teams were well known cheaters going back to 1955.

Remind yourself that if you're holding the Patriots to a higher standard than the rest of the NFL - and we're only talking about those that were CAUGHT - you've got a problem.

...and did any of those teams or fans try to place blame on everybody else for their wrong doings? No. Shula, like Bellichick, took his punishment like a man, kept his mouths shut, and moved on. You guys sound like 4th grade school girls trying to blame everybody but us. WE DID WRONG, man up.
Give it up, we were caught speeding and charged with vehicular homocide.

A voice of reason in the wilderness (better run before they tear you to pieces). Hey Zeke, check out my comment on this in the main thread before calling me more names behind the safety of your computer screen......

I didn't call you a name, I suggested you ingest a phallus. With that corrected, I'll go check out your thread (and I'll have bells on!)

Pretty 50/50 on the Steelers board, interesting wuote from Rooney saying he doesn't think it matters at all which I hadn't seen yet:

As expected, the team whose scumbag fans have the least right to complain are the ones still clinging to one last vestage of hope that they can use this to make them feel better about the Rats being treated like the Pats red-headed stepchild all these years:

Specter's not going to do anything. He's dying of cancer which is unfortunate, but also a fact. Beyond that, he has no power to do anything.

I do love how Jets fans feel like this is earth shattering information that the Patriots actually taped the AFC Championship game vs. the Steelers when they admitted to videotaping since 2000. How exactly is that earth shattering when that game falls into that time period? You can't say the Pats benefitted in that game since their only offensive TD was in the first half.

But their logic will be applied by Arlen Specter though. I expect him to make more waves. Granted I still don't think it is enough for Patrick Leahy to actually call Senate hearings. As much as Specter is pandering to his voting base, Leahy is not going to piss off his without proof of a cover up.

oh, the bills are a fine upstanding team. their players just slice their ex wives heads off.

Give 'em a break, if the Pats blow 4 superbowls in a row, we'll all be bitter too. Of course, we'll still have 3 wins to celebrate, and a 16-0 season, but...still...um...something!

Seriously, reading that helps you realize why the "rust belt" has no other successful industry and is slowly sinking back into the earth. Maybe it's the water...how can that many people still not realize what has been common knowledge for months now, pretend to be outraged, AND pretend to be serious football fans.
