RIP Jordan Devey

Damn that's sad news ... RIP
Worse news. The GoFundMe for him says he unalived himself. That’s a terrible burden to inflict on his wife and family.

It’s too bad he couldn’t find the help he evidently needed. I sincerely hope anyone with similar thoughts or urges will seek and find help.

Poor guy. Sometimes I wonder beyond just the CTE... I think for some, there has to be something that destroys their inner selves when they retire. Especially if it feels unfair in a way. Like being rejected by the one thing you grew up holding dear. That you sweated for, played through pain for, ruined joints for... and suddenly, nobody sees value in you playing anymore.

Have given up trying to make sense of situations like this. Feels like no sense trying to rationalize something where the brain and mind become irrational. Really awful

Sadly this has unfortunately become so common with ex NFL Players.. Phillip adams, Junior Seau, dymerius Thomas, and many others.. so sad God rest his soul!

Life is very difficult and former players in the league sometimes struggle mightily with ailments, both physical and mental.

That said, he had four kids. I’ll admit to having very mixed feelings about this.

CTE may end football. Too dangerous. Any former player has to worry It's a debilitating thing. So sad. May he RIP

I remember he was the most hated player in 2014.

That is brutal. May the good Lord have mercy on his soul, and give comfort to his family, and all those who love and mourn him. "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning". -Lamentations

I say this as a way to simply express myself, and not project my thought onto anyone else as an expectation or anything, but, every year I get older, I ask myself more and more: is this **** worth it? Pathetically it is hard for me to reconcile that with how much I love watching football.

May his family be ok and his story pushes a person to ask for help.

My thoughts go out to his family & friends & fans. It’s a very sad story, I wish he got the help he needed so badly.

You had me worried with that question, being as how he obviously decided the answer was “no”. Then thankfully your next sentence made me realize your question was about a more narrow focus. I might be projecting a bit, as closing in on my 75th birthday, with health not what it was fifty years ago, it’s a question that’s starting to occur to me more frequently. But so far no doubt about the answer.

I do think there’s a lot more than just CTE involved, although that does complicate things a lot. There’s a big adjustment from being on the field, competing in the center of things, to facing and accepting age and changes in your life role and your identity and self image. Anyone can be having any kind of issues or problems and adding stressors from major life changes exacerbates them. That’s why it’s important to seek and accept help, which unfortunately is hard for many of us. It’s important to emphasize that these struggles are common, and are not a failure or reflection on those fighting their demons. If you’re one of them don’t hesitate to reach out for help and support.

It all goes back to greed & corruption. The fact that the NFL/NHL and helmet companies haven’t figured out a way to make helmets better when it comes to football & hockey, is disgraceful. Concussions should not be so prevalent in sports. If you ever see the documentary called “League of Denial”, the greed & corruption (mainly by Roger Goodell, I know, shocking) is front & center.

I remember him he was the tuba playing o-lineman ...RIP Jordan
I didn't realize when i posted this that he committed suicide. What a sad situation he had four young kids and a wife. Just terrible for them.
