Celtics 2026-2027 Discussion

On th surface, I agree what they got fir JB was not enough.
All Im saying is, its too soon to say Stevens/C's ****ed up.
You dont know all the details. None of us do.
Stevens has been one of the best.
You dont think he's earned the benefit of the doubt?
I will wait and see how it all shakes out and when Stevens speaks more on the subject. He probably has good reasons not to expand on the topic right now. We don't know all of the ins and outs.
But yeah, its knee-jerk imho.
The 2013 trade with the Nets is in retrospect one of the worst trades in NBA history, but at the time it was made most people thought the Celtics got the better deal but “only time will tell.” Mostly people thought the Celtics won simply because they had hit a wall, and basically got bailed out, but in terms of the actual player for draft comp value, there was not an overwhelming consensus that the Celtics hosed the Nets at the time. They got three first round picks and one swap, but keep in mind that this was for three players, not one player.

Also, let’s remember that the Celtics could’ve picked players other than Brown and Tatum, which were the consensus. Better picks at the time and people would’ve probably forgotten all about the Nets trade if they had like Brandon Ingram and Markelle Fultz to show for it.

So I’m just saying all this stuff is kind of complicated and yes, it’s way too early to say the Celtics got ripped off here. For all we know, they could end up with two very high draft picks.

LMFAO Kendrick Perkins is truly the most ******ed commentator in all of sports.

6th to 8th seed incoming, first round bounce. They are going to miss Brown’s energy and confidence. I wonder if they will have an identity when being led by a few pretty passive stars on the team.

You went from a team that could compete against the Knicks to a pretender. At best. They closed the door on Brown but ultimately they are closing the door on the Tatum era too.

Then why trade him NOW?!?
Because Brown's 2 year, $142M extension window is July 26th to October 19th. If they don't sign him for an extra $71M a year for 2 years in the next 3 months, he will play out his existing contract and they get even less value.

If the Celtics pay P George for 1 year (and lose Brown's services), they get two 1st round draft picks. They thought these two extra 1st round picks were worth it. I am not sure if that is good value or not, probably depends on where they end up drafting and who they draft.

It is not just the draft picks is it? After 1 year of P George, the Celtics have Browns salary value to sign 1 or 2 FAs to reconstruct the team.

That is pretty dark. I hope you feel better tomorrow.

For the 2027 season, the Celtics will have an extra year of experience for Scheierman and Gonzalez, plus 1 or 2 FAs with Browns cap space. As early as next year this could be a completely different team.

Stay positive.

It's a bad trade. it's okay to say it lol. They got a pittance of a return for an MVP-caliber player. That isn't knee-jerk, it is what it is. Even they wanted a lot more but Philly talked them down. They clearly walked themselves into an unfavorable position after the Giannis push. Knee-jerk is calling it the worst trade in Boston history. Fact of the matter is, regardless of where teams end up, they should have gotten more. I don't even doubt that JB "had to leave" - the failure is in the return.

Brown is not an MVP caliber player. If he was truly that, there would have been better offers than what we got. The guy is an allstar that had the best year of his career and still nobody wanted his ass for anything of worth. Should tell you something.

Why not get rid of Joe, he SUX.
A coach that sees his team throwing BRICKS for 3 qtrs, and doesn't TELL THEM to change focus needs to be fkn FIRED
He's been doing this crap since they upgraded his dumb fkn ass
I cannot stand that punk.

ADJUST, ADJUST

Dumb ****. Bah

KC Would've put those pricks in a headlock to make his point.
Joe is a douche, so overated.

Unfortunately, he has a player option for year two which is 57 million. If it were one year, I would say I really like this deal. The two years is what makes it seem more like a lateral move at best.

So, looking at the roster of LAC, unless they sign a big FA next off-season (I didn't look up their exact cap space but have a few UFA coming off the books), they will quite possibly be in the basement in a tough Western Conference with improving teams (like Utah, Dallas, Memphis or maybe even Sacto) possibly jumping them in the standings.
I'm going to say they will be a lottery team for sure (if no BIG UFA is signed or traded for), with possibly a top 6 or so draft pick. So the pick can be dangled as trade bait next off-season (when other teams will see the construct of their roster) or wait it out and see exactly where the pick lands (that draft will have some serious upside players in it, but still raw, obviously). Bottom line, that 2028 could very well be GOLD.

George is 36. When he is 37, George decides if wants one year at $57M, or if he has a good year with the Celtics, might a team offer him three more years at $25M per year? That is value. One year at $57M, and then try to find a contract at 38, or maybe three years at $75M.

I think they will have full value of the MLE and a big TPE ($27M?, just a guess right now) to play around with if they don't hard cap themselves this season. So yeah, they can sign 2 players, better than Mitchell Robinson, even though they will still be over the cap but can move some tradeable contracts.

Sure, that is possible, but if he has his typical 45 games played, always injured, and just wants to cash out then $57 million is pretty enticing. Maybe the Celtics are thinking that he will like the culture in Boston and have a chance to win a title and after this season they could offer him that type of extension. I don’t know. It is just the part of the deal here that sucks. They’re basically trying to free up more cap space and they took on arguably the worst contract in the NBA.

The one thing that makes me feel good is if the Sixers were dumb enough to give him this contract I’m glad I’m the team making a trade with them. Brad Stevens is clearly not an idiot so I’m sure he sees something that we don’t.

I've seen it written that George is tradeable after one year because he'll be on an expiring deals are highly valuable in the NBA to clear future cap space or use as salary-matching chips to acquire disgruntled stars

So you could see a similar swap of a player with a longer term contract in that range for the rebuild/contention after next season when they can spend again.

There's some truth to that but it's still a trade that made us weaker

Maybe they'll resign Anfernee Simons for about $6 million

Oops - too late, the Sixer grabbed him too

These are all really good additions for the Sixers
