UFA Pats should consider at Positions of need

In 2025, our safeties were Woodson, Hawkins and Pettus.

I favor have Hawkins plus another free agent safety.
We could stand to add at Safety and thier will be a camp standout or a veteran cap cut that shakes loose and we pick up.. the great thing is we are able to carry a 90 man roster heading into training camp.. furthermore once we take care of the pass rush it won't really be so much of a liability with Hawkins at FS..

I think you get into cost issue there. Vrabel doesn't use 3 Safety looks like BB did. 3rd safety is very much a STer/backup position, not a heavy rotational piece. The math has to math if you're going to keep Hawkins and add another free agent FS. Depend son how much Hawkins gets and how much you'd be looking to spend on the other addition. If it gets to a point where you're spending $6M on Hawkins and $4M on another guy, I might prefer just spending $10M on a legit upgrade to really lock the position in and then just taking some minimum salary and draft pick fliers on the depth spot.

Adding a veteran Power back.. I'd go after nick chubb.. he wouldn't be a feature back but he can get tough yards and break tackles still....

Good points!! If you had a chance to see Vrabel's interview last week.. you'll see that cost isn't so much an issue he and Wolf have the green light to spend also that deal where the team sold a percentage of stock in the brand netted them like 800 million.. money isn't an issue or the end all be all in Vrabel's team building prowess.. Vrabel's an old school coach that knows his teams needs strength and weaknesses.. of course no NFL team is never going to spend frivolously.. but Vrabel's got the green light said in his own words if I want something I can go and get it.. Vrabel having been a former NFLPA player representative knows intricately about when it comes to paying guys..

You make good points.. looking at the totality of the OL during the regular season they fared well.. coming from the 32nd ranked in 2024 they were better..but still have a ways to go of course.. Campbell and Wilson being rookies will likely have gotten better and stronger from thier first NFL season.. I believe to your point we address some OL needs in the draft and mid tier FAs or cap cuts this month during free agency. The more pressing need is Edge.. you have to be able to rush the QB with 4.. getting the edge rushers helps the offense tremendously.. getting sack fumbles, excellent field positions getting the ball back to Drake as many times as possible takes significant pressure off the OL and keeps the offense in rhythm..
The offensive line was the beneficiary of a very weak schedule. Once they went up against much better teams, it got ugly.

Possibly.. they did give up 10 sacks to Cleveland so they weren't perfect at all..

Would you inquire on either??

I'd be interested in both to some degree. Hargrave started his career as a nose tackle but transitioned to more of a 3Tech after leaving PIT. If they thought he could work as more of a 1Tech nose tackle in Vrabel's attacking scheme that could be a good fit on a short term deal.

Jones is a good rushing/receiving back. It's not uncommon for teams to regularly use 3 backs nowadays so he could be a nice add to round out the position with Stevenson/Henderson.

I wouldn't be pushing hard to spend a lot for either, but inquire? Sure, why not?

Agree. I still think the OL (OGs) is more deficient than the DL (EDGE) at this point. I understand that the reporters say that Vrabel's team thinks otherwise.
I go back to the early 2000s dynasties we were able to harass QBs due to our pressures.. relentlessly.. middling QBs were far to comfortable this season whenever we didn't blitz... getting home with 4 will have to be the way next season..

No.

Hargrave is over paid, under performing for his paycheck, and over the hill. None of those help us get younger, cheaper, or better.

RBs are a generic commodity. Grow our own. We have some in the pipeline. Draft another one, or sign as UDFA.

I think it's a bit of a leap to say that because they prevented another team from poaching him that means "they have a pretty high opinion of him and his future". I think the fact that he was on the practice squad to begin with implies they think he's a borderline NFL player at all. the fact that they prevented someone else from poaching him, IMO, only implies that they think higher than him amongst all the other fringe NFL players on their practice squad/last few spots of the active roster. That's it. No more, no less.
The Pats brought in and cut how many free agents during the regular season, 20-30… they carried Dippre all season and when his tenure with the team was threatened they elevated him. That means they wanted to keep him. That’s not definitive for next season, he needs to keep improving and learning, but they clearly valued the player.

It's not a matter of him being overpaid or not It's simply would be able to come in on a veteran contract and fill a rotational role like Tonga did?

@One-If-By-Sea @captain stone

2025, 2001, 2003&04, 2016, 2018 all superbowl appearances in those seasons... all considered "easy" schedules...

The schedule never matters any NFL team can win on any given game day... they are all the best athletes in the world.. it's about who executed better.. we did that and is why we won or reached superbowls.. in those respective seasons.. remember 2024? We couldn't even beat the Anthony Richardson colts...at home!!

To some extend, yes. The issue was the C and LG primarily. Yes, Campbell had some issues, but he was also playing injured.

Agreed.. I also wanted to mention seems as if anytime the Patriots see success in a season the narrative is easy schedule.. did 2001, 2003,2004,2016,2018 & 2025 respectively in found was mentioned as years with "easy " schedule.. whenever we are 4-13 there never seems to be any mention about an easy schedule...?

Your thoughts on this?

The Washington Commanders informed cornerback Marshon Lattimore that he will be released before the league year begins next week, sources told ESPN's @AdamSchefter, a move that had been expected since Lattimore suffered a season-ending injury in November. https://search.app/G95MV

As purely a veteran rotational player he fits the bill.. better than anyone we currently have behind our starters...
