PATRIOTS NEWS Mark Daniels - Tonga and Patriots have failed in contract talks.

Breaking New England Patriots Team News
That’s not what he reported. He reports they were close
He was just on 98.5 with Alex Barth and cerrone battle he reported in on the radio.
So is Daniel reporting different stories in different media? Or changing his story? Maybe the story depends on whether he reports what the team says or what Tonga’s team says?

5 years and 5 teams with career earnings of $6.4M, can't blame the man in the least for looking to bank some coin
Yup. I'll thank him for giving us a good year of play. But we can't really give him big money when we need to spend on impact players like EDGE and WR.

This is his last big payday contract so I can't blame him for going for the money. We will look for a replacement. The nice thing is that our defense was still playing pretty well without Tonga. But maybe we look at a big space filler DT in the middle rounds now.

Could be the case because reporters have a tendency to write one thing and when being interviewed say something differently I remember Ian rapaport did this notoriously when he wrote for the Herald.

Joshua Farmer is 6'3" and probably about 320. Maybe Barmore or Onwenu can guide the lad on proper eating techniques and nutrition. Farmer could end up 340 lb easily if he applies himself.

One thing I heard was that they might try to keep Tonga more if they were more serious about moving on from Barmore. But if they are more likely to keep Barmore, then they feel more okay letting Tonga walk (if the money is too high).

Farmer and Durden are fine backups ready to fight for time next year, with Pharms on the practice squad; this isn't a glaring need. If the team can't find a good development tackle in the draft, maybe then they can try to pick up a free-agent beef eater.

Outside of disciplinary reasons I don’t think moving Barmore was ever a consideration. You don’t accidentally stumble into All Pro caliber three down DT’s in free agency… you have to pay them a mint, and they already paid Barmore a mint in signing bonus and salary. After this year it’s basically year to year high salary but with a reasonable cap charge if he becomes a cancer.

Barmore is a three down stud, Milton Williams is a chess piece that can move everywhere on three downs. I like Tonga and what he brought to the team but he’s a two down player. He enters the game on third and short or goal line and rotates in depending
on whether the other two are gassed.

Bottom line is Tonga will receive his best offer, the Pats will decide at that time whether to match it or not. You can always find another affordable Tonga in free agency or the draft, Barmore and Williams are special players. You don’t move on from that unless you have to.

There are some potential red flags with Barmore that may have been spurring on the rumors: the legal problems, the blood clots, the knee, the immaturity, the disappearing when Milton was out, the lack of stats...

That said, I agree that the Pats should obviously keep him unless one of those problems really flares up.

Callahan and Kyed also said that there wouldn't be much trade market for Barmore. Maybe a 6th or a pick swap to get as high as a 4. With that kind of return, you can see why the team should keep him.

He’s definitely on the spectrum and emotionally stunted. He is entirely too passionate, his meds probably need regulating.

As far as disappearing when Milton was out, he didn’t… Milton, Tonga, Spillane and others disappeared with injury and fans expected Barmore
to be otherworldly. That’s not how team football works.

Barmore gets double teamed on almost every down, and when he doesn’t he shoves the lineman in front of him back into the QB’s lap or pressures him. That doesn’t show up on the stat sheet, but coaches watch film. What he does allows others to shine and face single blockers.

It’s a team sport, Barmore is Godzilla, he needs to be accounted for by opposing teams on every down.

Yeah, we saw what the team looked like when all the complimentary parts were back for the playoffs. Again, I'm just telling you what the reporters were hearing at the combine.

Report that the Bills are going to offer him a 2 year deal at around $8.5M per year

Considering he's made $6.5M in his career to date, I can't begrudge him that, as much as I hate it

That's....a lot of their remaining cap space to throw at a journeyman.

Bills might be more ****ed than we realize.

Sure, Hargrave would be an excellent stopgap. Although someone would probably dump a bunch of money on him, so who knows.
Spotrac shows his 2026 salary was going to be $15,000,000. He’s not going to be cheap.

Do we need a $15 million DT? Reiss suggested Barmore might get dumped to avoid a $10 million payment. Tonga can’t get a deal because he’s asking too much money. We’re talking about how deep we are at DT.

And now folks suggest we should kick the tires on an old $15 million veteran who’s been cut repeatedly for underperforming and being too expensive? I’m not feeling it. This was just one year ago:

Why the 49ers used post-June 1 designations to release Javon Hargrave and Maliek Collins

He's 33, and just got released because he was on the books for 15 million.

He's not getting 15 million from anyone contending. He'll be lucky to get a 2 year deal from anyone.

And Vrabel says he wants us to be younger, cheaper, and better.

I wouldn’t even waste time kicking the tires on Hargrave.

Onwenu’s diet is only for the truly committed buffet devotee.
