UFA Pats should consider at Positions of need

Getting a better than average LG would go a LONG way in improving the OL.
Even a slightly below average starting veteran LG would be a major improvement for the OL. A 3-year contract with another Moses (hopefully, a bit younger) would be fine for now if we can't find an affordable top LG at a reasonable price.

Interesting reading. Lots of opinions. Here's what I'm coming down to as we close in on FA. For the most part I have been big on improving our edge situation in FA (and the draft), but I feel there is a big urgency in fixing the LG spot and returning Wilson back to the C position. Getting a better than average LG would go a LONG way in improving the OL. I don't necessarily want to do that in the draft, since we would run into the same problem again regardless of how good the rookie would be, he would STILL be a rookie. Now WHO that vet LG should be the next question and one I have no clue to. I'll trust to Pats to make this decision, but I hope they do it early and with a guy most people will be happy with.

Sounds like there are several decent prospects to fill the job with the biggest complaint being several of them have suspect injury histories. Well the game is such that EVERYONE gets injured these days, so I'll place competence over injury risk and sign the best guy and hope for the best. Who is the best LG out there regardless of injury risk?

BTW- I was thinking about Strange and his release. It was completely understandable given the expected timeline the team was on at that time. Moving on from him during a rebuilding phase make perfect sense. His patellar injury was going to slow him down for start of 2025 anyway. Well, he ended up the season as one of Miami's best OLmen and IIRC is a FA. Perhaps a reunion would be a thought?

That would be admitting mistake by the staff.

And if he flunks here, writing is on the wall . Not worth the risk to their coaching career. So will not happen.

Dobbs and Devito don't have a ton of experience and probably don't offer Maye much insight at this point...plus Josh has seen it all. Camp arms..that's all they offer the team. I prefer someone like Jimmy G be the backup who has a good understanding of the system and a lot of NFL experience.
Devito is young enough and good enough to be worth keeping.

The guy I’d prefer to see as our backup, if not this year maybe next, is Mason Rudolph. He checks the box for NFL experience, and he and Drake are extended family, with a friendship going back to childhood.

Yuppers...I think that would be a good fit as well...even tho the experience isn't really there...he still has more then Dobbs and Devito

They should add Nick Cross... safety from the Colts.

He fits Vrabel's scheme, is only 25 year's old, even faster and more athletic than Woodson.

The two of them together would be a load to handle with our CB's.

Safety is a big position of need to upgrade.

Legal tampering period begins in 9 days. Where's the damn countdown clock on the front page? LFG!

I like Coby Bryant at the Hawks at safety he'd be a great addition.

Ehhhh….

These safeties at the combine are putting up ridiculous measureables… I don’t want the Pats reaching in free agency if they can’t get the guy they want. Geno Stone… I don’t want a slow safety.
Gotcha! He would be a depth option..we need to strengthen the safety position.. so far Hawkins who likely resigning, pettus and schooler are the listed safeties on the roster? They need depth Vrabel spoke about this in abundance.

Otton would be a solid TE add alongside Henry.

Chig would actually be a great addition at FB, which they could use. Westover did nothing.
Otton wouldn't be a bad option.. I'm leaning more towards likely more athletic and can get down field.

2. RB- Kenneth Gainwelll, Tyler Allgier
3. WR- Rashid Shaheed, Treylon Burke, Romeo Doubs, Jouan Jennings
4. TE- David Njoku, Dallas Goedert, Noah Fant
RB - Maybe Gainwell if FA, but best if Larison wins #3 back (he's our Skattebo)
WR - I think Doubs would be a great addition to what we need
TE - No on those 3, Yes on Likely or Otton

Agreed. Also at WR.. I like the Doubs idea..Knock on him is injuries.. at RB definitely like to see what larison can provide too.

We have to assume the team thinks pretty highly of CJ Dippre, some team went sniffing around the practice squad and the Pats brought him up to protect him. It's hard to get snaps when you have really good vets like Henry and Hooper ahead of you. But hopefully the kid comes in ready this season to contribute more and become that punishing blocker fans of his at the draft like me thought he could be. He is big, ridiculously strong and has some athleticism.

They should probably add another value vet like Otton, but if the money for him gets a little too rich... they should add another value guy like Foster Moreau. I don't think Otton is anything magical, they might be better off saving some money and signing a guy like Moreau... if healthy he's probably the better player. They might be able to find some value in his injury history and age. Then go ahead and draft another guy. Rookie TE's very often take time, get a developmental rookie to sit like Dippre did.

Yes, the team thought enough of Dippre to want him to come to TC in 2026 (similar to Swinson and Wallace). That doesn't mean that the teams thinks that either has a high probability of making the 53.

They don't need depth. They need a real starting FS. Hawkins' FA market is reportedly soft. I wonder why? Hmmmm. Maybe because he is not that good?
