Ran across a story about Jack Gibbens eschewing ESPN and other high profile network interviews, instead choosing to sit down on the floor with a disabled reporter.

It seemed like a too good to be true feel good story that’s typical of the flood of AI generated crap, so I did a quick google and found enough to think it appears to be real.

This Instagram has several video clips toward the end that are very good. Best is Gibbens’ facial expression in response to the reporter’s comment about his “leglesscy” in the last clip. If that’s AI it’s an incredibly good deepfake. Take a look and see what you think.

EDIT TO ADD: I may have been a bit too skeptical, now that I realize that the Instagram account is ESPN Sports Center. I guess it’s not deep fake gaslighting, at least no more than anything in this version of the Matrix is…

Apparently Jack wasn’t the only one, just the one that blew up and went viral. NP, Mack’s got enough viral videos already this season.

Good to see.

The reporter is Dave Stevens, who was born without legs (he does have small feet), is the only person to play college football and minor league baseball. At 3'2", he holds the Arizona state HS record for most walks.

Umpire’s dilemma: Pitch is in the dirt, but hits the plate so it’s also in the strike zone, still above his knees…

Dave Stevens is currently a reporter for the Disability Channel, but has worked for ESPN in the past. He's been awarded 7 Emmy's for his reporting.

Stevens tried out for the Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Twins and Cinncinnati Reds at different points in his life.

I browsed some of his other posts while I was looking at his Instagram. Very impressive. Seems like a really great guy.

Curious what position the Cowboys tried him out for?

Apparently he played college football as a DL, because the OL couldn't figure out how to block him.

An internet search led me to this:
During an open try-out in 1990 for the Dallas Cowboys, Dave Stevens was listed as a Running Back and Return specialist.

Here is a clip I found on you-tube..
