Mike Vrabel on Will Campbell:

“It’s not about the success, it’s about can you have adversity and come back the next week... I [told him], ‘Listen, you’re the guy that we wanted to play this position and we can’t wait to watch you continue to play, improve, and get better.’ We have a lot of guys that are 21, 22, 23 years old. Our quarterback is younger than [my son] Carter… and that’s exciting... It’s how this league goes. Whether you get beat as a tackle, you get beat as a corner, whatever that may be. You just come back the next day, the next week, and keep fighting. So, I’m proud of them for doing that.”

The bolded scares me for my binkies. They aren't 21, 22, 23

On Mesidor

but all the sources I talked to said Mesidor's age won't be a major factor in his evaluation.

I'm hoping this is wrong; at least wrong enough to help him fall to the end of the first.

And on TJ Parker, there's that trigger word I'm always hyper aware of when looking at DL scouting reports.

He's capable of setting a violent edge in run defense and has the strength to extend and shed in-line blockers.

Daniel Jeremiah's first top 50 is apparently out on Monday. A big moment in the draft calendar.
Isn't it interesting that before Daniel Jeremiah's top 50, almost no-one was talking about Malachi fields being a top 50 pick or even sniffing the 2nd round. Now that talk is everywhere (including Jordan Reid's top 50)*. Jeremiah is absolutely an opinion former when it comes to the draft.

* This isn't a criticism of Jordan Reid who is one of my favourite draft pundits.

Parsing language....He's capable of setting a violent edge - capable is usually followed by a "but." Maybe I'm too much the cynic.

100's of players, takes a while to get to the 2nd and 3rd production ones who are occasionally more than they've produced for one reason or more.

One thing I noticed from Jordan Reid's top 50 is that it includes Gabe Jacas. This means that the only mid-tier edge rusher left is Derrick Moore (Howell and R Mason Thomas are also in the top 50). I think it's unlikely that Moore makes it to 64.

I think there are therefore only four options if we're right that RT and EDGE are the two off-season priorities for this team.

1. Bank on there not being much of a drop off from Moore to the likes of Malachi Lawrence and Keyron Crawford.

2. Not being much of a drop off from Iheanachor or Miller to Austin Barber or Crownover.

3. I think the most likely option, and probably most preferable, is to sign a FA edge rusher and draft a RT

4. Trade a 2027 1st for a mid-high 2nd round pick. I really don't want to do this but if the window is open for the next 3-4 years, it's a possibility.

My preference would probably be 3-2-1-4.

If he was "exceptional at setting a violent edge", he's probably wouldn't be falling to the late first/second round. At this point in the draft, you've missed out on guarantees and are shopping for hope (upside) and/or competence (floor).

It seems to me the EDGE class is roughly triaging itself:

Tier 1: Arvell Reese, David Bailey, Rueben Bain

Tier 2: Keldric Faulk, Akheem Mesidor, TJ Parker, [Zion Young]

Tier 3: [Zion Young], Gabe Jacas, Derrick Moore, Malachi Lawrence

Tier 4: Day 3 developmental guys (Crawford, Curry, Kamara, etc.)

That's 10 day 1-2 EDGE rushers.

1. I think you're right to hedge on Young's value. He is getting more round one chatter.

2. I'm not there yet, might have to wait until the combine, but I'm getting closer to bumping up Crawford to tier 3.

Has there been a draft in which, outside of QB, the four best players are two linebackers, a running back and a safety?

Dane Brugler has just said on X that his top 100 comes out next week. He was the driver of Membou and Jalon Walker's stock last year so it will be interesting to see if there are any interesting surprises in his top 10.
