Patriots Injury News The Patriots placed WR Mack Hollins on IR

The impact is expressed in production. The production will be replaced by whoever takes his place.

Compare to baseball, a .220 hitter gets hits, just not as frequently as a better hitter. If he gets injured after 500 at bats and you say Oh my God how can we replace 110 hits, you are looking at it wrong.
And when a .220 hitter who is a Golden Glove fielder gets injured you don’t just shrug and say it’s okay because he’s just a .220 hitter.

Agree with many here...Hooper will see more snaps. I think Hollins took snaps away from Hooper anyway...with his size and radius. It's possible we will see little to no drop-off with Hooper. Fingers crossed.

Everything I say is based upon watching the games. I’m not saying he can’t make a play, I’m saying the guys who will take his place are better receivers. Not being 6’4” doesn’t make you a worse receiver.

But yeah if that one play should ever happen again and Maye throws it the same height to a shorter guy (which he probably wouldn’t) then we wouldn’t have that play, but we wild add others by the other guys being more capable of getting open
That play is possible because of Mack's height.
Those layered throws are not easy to make when the second level defenders take a deep drop. Part of what makes those plays is possible is Maye having the trust to know he can throw it high and Mack can make a play.
You trade him out for Chism, or Williams or Pop, those throws aren't possible. So it effectively takes that play away.
McD will have to adjust, and it's not as easy as you make it to be.

You can't fool me.

This is a Kyle Williams hype post.

You can’t replace what Hollins brings to the team. Not only the production, but the blocking and leadership.

I’m guessing Jiles will come in for Hollins. And Chism will get a lot of playing time as well. Certainly not ideal when trying to hopefully get the #1 seed.
This is what I also have in mind. Mack big presence cannot be tweaked with smaller receiver . I feel jiles should get his opportunity to make some noise especially with a accurate QB like Maye.

But hollins was on money for some of Mac errant I erthrown high balls. Not sure if jiles can catch the. Without tipping them off to the next defender behind him.

Mack was last seen celebrating the Ravens win by jumping up and down. So maybe a practice injury? I'm guessing a sports hernia, in which case he's not back for the playoffs at all.

Couldn't we let him ride it out instead of putting him on it??

Another great season ruined by injuries late in the season.

Reminds me of 2015.

You're acting like the season is over. There are two games left and at least one play-off game. We should be getting Williams, Spillane, and Campbell back. That's some pretty big reinforcements.

I’m talking about Kyle Williams not Milton. I should’ve been more clear on that.
And he was referring to the fact you mentioned Jiles. Who wasn't elevated.

Assume he’s hurt bad. Season ending.
It probably is, but all we can say for sure is that Vrabel et al. felt putting him on IR so they could use that roster spot on another player, rather than holding it for him, was either preferable or necessary.

Since only one team per conference gets the bye in the post-season, as opposed to the regular season when everyone gets a bye, the rule should be different.

A bye is supposed to be a benefit that a team earns and part of that benefit should count as a played week for IR return.
I agree, but that's not how the rule is currently. The NFLPA should push for that change.

We have no way to know that’s the motivation.

We have just as much reason to say Vrabel et al put him on IR because they know it’s a season ending injury that will take months to heal.

You’re making a speculative interpretation of the situation based only on your projection.

That’s not for sure.

Considering the other 5 guys who are OUT, the Pats needed the roster space so they would have 48 players.

Landry, Wilson, Spillane, Boutte, and Tonga.

Tonga and Williams reduced the D-line to 3 healthy in Barmore, Gregory and Durden.
Wilson being out meant they were thin on the Interior Line. Which is why they signed Jaimes.

They brought Muma in to help with Spillane being out, though we haven't seen Muma yet. The Pats already had 5 Edge, so Landry being out means that Jennings, Ponder and Swinton need to step up. This is a good game to get them snaps.

Hopefully, we'll see Dippre getting some snaps in this game. Again, it's a good game to get him snaps. Especially with the Pats likely going with a more ground heavy game.

While he has been a key player in certain spots, he has not necessarily been highly productive. I don't love this news, but I will not panic yet. They have other young players ready to help fill the void - Williams, Chism, and perhaps one of the guys on the PS who showed some potential in the preseason like Webb or Jiles.

Speaking of which, they didn't elevate either of those WRs, but also did not elevate a RB, which tells me they will probably have Henderson active, and may lean on the running game vs. the Jets. Perhaps they will get rookie TE Dippre going a bit.

A guy put on IR at this point is a prayer he might be ready for the SB. He must have something that’s normally 6+ weeks. I agree but I don’t think it’s gonna matter in this case.

Hollins makes plays across the middle and down the sidelines that no one else has been making. Hooper will get more targets but he can’t run the routes that Mack runs.

What we know is that, yesterday, Vrabel alluded to another roster move coming. If they knew it was season ending, why not make the move yesterday when they made the other moves?? The fact that they waited until Saturday to make the move tells me it's more likely not season ending. But, it's a Schrodinger's Cat scenario. We'll only know if it is season ending if the post-season ends and he hasn't been activated unless, of course, they make an announcement to that between now and the end of the post-season.

That is not true. People here think he must be a good blocker because why else would he be on the field. But if you actually watch him block hes no more effective that’s the other WRs.

Be honest you haven’t watched tape of his blocking, you take the “widely held” misconception as factual. I don’t. I watch.

It’s fine to disagree but when you argue “someone told me” vs “I have analyzed” you don’t have a strong disagreement.

Now cower back to your cave.

People here think Hollins is a good blocker because he is a good blocker.

You have no place telling me why I use a phrase when you torture more phrases than anyone here. I used the term 'widely held' because Holins is literally widely held to be one of the best blocking WR's in the game by not just myself and most other posters here at PF but by the people who get paid to evaluate talent. In other words I don't place my opinion above theirs. I do place it above yours because you will say anything to score your imaginary internet points. You don't debate in good faith honestly you do not debate at all, you spout disingenuous nonsense. Having watched Hollins I can safely say he is a better blocker than any of NE's WR's and the equal of the TE's. The only reason anyone would say 5'10" Boutte and 5'8" Douglas can do the job Hollins does blocking is because they need to in order to support a flawed argument.

I've said it before, I do not quote you when you post nonsense because I do not wish to engage with you and I would prefer you not quote me and ask again that you refrain from doing so in the future. I'd block you but as many of us discovered during SBB's meltdown, many threads don't make sense when a high volume poster is blocked. I do not live to argue and I am not a 7 foot internet tough guy determined to fight every fight. In fact I find engaging with you to be unpleasant and best politely avoided, not that you'd understand anything about being polite online. I have no idea what you are like in the real world but here at PF you are rude and graceless in a way no one would survive IRL. I am the same guy here I am everywhere else; I'm a realist who'd rather laugh at the foibles of life than be beaten down by them

There was no reason to go personal in your post but since you have I want to clarify some things to you. I do not live in a cave. My wife of 49 years and I live in a home we built for our retirement and find very pleasant. I am a regular guy. I have never cowered IRL, I am certainly not about to do it on the internet. You should know neither I or anyone else I know of here abandons a debate with you out of a fear of being bested or a lack of testicular fortitude. We walk away because we're embarrassed we ever engaged with you in the first place. It is an exercise we all know going in is pointless and many of us chide each other in private when we see another of us 'Arguing with Andy.' There are even 'rules' and memes about it. They exist because we all know you will make whatever disingenuous statement, make up whatever stat, proclaim what others think. invent strawman argument after strawman argument, move the goalposts and resort to base insult to convince yourself you have carried the moment. That is not debating. You showed yourself a person of low character when you tried to run away from the cancerous air around your 'Andy Johnson' persona, like it was a coat you could discard, going so far as lying about not being 'Andy' then making up a nonsense cover story when the denial fell apart.

Now you can spout whatever you like without fear of rejoinder because I would rather let you declare victory than feed your need. Just know while you will of course see yourself superior in your imagined victory everyone else here will just see what they always do...
