Probably not for fear of this.......Don’t they have mirrors in Cleveland?
will preface this by saying I do not think the brownies will trade Garrett...Contract isn't as problematic IMO it's the age. Broncos ate Wilson's salary and they are just fine... Garrett is phenomenal but would we want to take a player at 29? If he's 25 or 26 wouldn't bat an eye.
I will continue to say this the salary cap is something created by the owners. It can be modified, manipulated in many fashionable ways should 2 teams truly want to make a deal.. of course teams want to always make best use of it and it's a real thing but it's not the end all be all. Good players cost $$$ that's the reality of the NFL. This is just my opinion.
Williams is worth every penny he got, and is a great FA signing, but he doesn't have nearly the impact on an offense as Garrett does today.Milton Williams is due $21 million guaranteed next year. Milton Williams Contract Details, Salary Cap Charges, Bonus Money, and Contract History | Over The Cap
Miles Garret is going to play for just $2 million more? If he did, Garrett really has seen the light. Gonzo will need a top CB contract in 2026 and Maye eligible for contract negotiations after the 2026 season.
Then there is the issue of how much Garrett costs. The Browns would surely seek more than a 1st.
I’m not sure I entirely agree. When I look back at that I see two dynasties with about a three year break between them. That’s based on AFCCG appearances. The first ended just after they got Moss, when Brady’s knee was torn up a year later. Then there was a bit of an interregnum before the second dynasty. One take I get from the cap discussion is that we don't ever have to worry about somebody duplicating that 20 year run of excellence. Looking at that Lions list of resigning's makes me believe that teams' superbowl window's are going to be shorter going forward with this salary explosion of the last few years.
Thats the point of my dividing the dynastic era into two dynasties. During the first dynasty Brady would spread the ball around to anybody who was open. The WRs were middle class and interchangeable, so as long as the depth on the bench had the next man up who could also get open the train kept rolling. After Brady got a taste of having a cheat code WR with Moss, and after his injury, he was not as quick to throw to any receiver he didn’t already trust, so when injuries put one of his binkies down it wasn’t as easy for the next man up to step in and produce at the same level. I think there were some other nuances as well but that’s good enough to make the point.I know KC is in the midst of a long run now, but it started back before salaries boomed. Remember back in 2019 premium QB salaries were about $25MM in just 6 years, they have more than doubled and now premium Edge rushers are getting over $40MM. Hard to compete through a long season when your cap is so top heavy. The secret to our long-term success was the existence of a strong middle class and the depth to survive the inevitable injuries that pop up. The failures of those talented Pats teams of the late 90's stemmed from the fact they couldn't survive the injuries that occurred.
Great, but should be wearing green, not the silver star. Just saying.Probably not for fear of this.......
If Maye extends in 2027, would his new contract kick in for that season?I don't know all the contract details, but Drake has 3 more years (with his option) on the rookie deal. Now I'm sure he will be extended before that comes to pass, but how hard is it to get out of Myles contract after the 27 season?
Myles would make us e serious contenders for the SB this year, and the next two imho. The timing of resigning Maye while getting out of Myles contract could sync up nicely.
This is pure BS however, Myles isn't getting traded.
with all due respect completely wrong on both countsI may be wrong here (I know, there's a first time for everything ) but from what I understand not only would trading him completely cripple Cleveland for the next few years but the cap hit for us would really limit our flexibility as we continue this rebuild. So as much as I'd like to have a beast like Garrett unless there's something I'm unaware of I'd pass.
The only consideration to his age at this point is that he's not 35.If Garrett was 25 absolutely you do it. As great as he is he is pushing 30.... have to take this into account.
Denver absorbed a huge hit from Wilson.. so as it's been proven over and over again if two teams legitimately want to make a deal they will figure it out. We as fans worry more about cap space then NFL teams do.
It doesn't.I may be wrong here (I know, there's a first time for everything ) but from what I understand not only would trading him completely cripple Cleveland for the next few years but the cap hit for us would really limit our flexibility as we continue this rebuild. This is how my thinking usually goes.will preface this by saying I do not think the brownies will trade Garrett...
If you feel your "window of contention" is open, that you have a legit chance to compete for hardware (and I don't mean the 2021 "Oh happy days we're smiling because we made the playoffs" contention) - so i reiterate - a legit shot, then you do it... age be damned...
Over the last 25 years we have seen/are seeing two legendary coach/player combos... most teams like KC fade off after three, maybe four appearances in the SB... so what we have witnessed in the last 25 years has warped the vision of what is possible...
Its a risky proposition, all those picks for a 29/30 year old player... but damn baby, if you are there.... oooman... The Great One (or his dad) once said "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take" ... So if that SB window is open now? You.Get.The.****ing.Player.
This.Halloween would be a great day to pull the trigger on a trade for Garrett

They're spending $40 mil a season on this guy and don't even have a QB. Between that and what they are paying Watson not to pay, that's a good chunk of owners money and cap space committed to NOT being a contender for the next few years.
That's a big contract for the Pats to take on, but they can actually afford it while Maye is on his rookie contract
hard to argue with this logic...This is how my thinking usually goes.
The difference is that, this changes your equation. This actually opens your window of contention where it might not have been before, for *this* year.
This isn't Micah Parsons, this is Myles ****ing Garrett. I'd love to try to express my opinions on the two players better than that, but I can't.
This isn't a 'puts you over the top' move. This is a 'opens the window wide open for the next 2 years before you have to pay Maye' move. This is any offense trying to do anything against Garrett/Barmore/Williams/Chaisson with the AFC Defensive Player of the Month at slot corner, and an All-Pro on the boundary.
This is, people will cry that we can't cover tight ends, because it's literally the only thing we can't do.
And really, this is Reggie White to the Packers, or maybe Charles Haley to the Cowboys depending on how highly you think about Charles Haley (I'm biased because he was JMU).hard to argue with this logic...
i have the von miller to the rams, the reggie white to the packers, the chirefs getting frank clark, charles haley jumping to the cowboys rolling around in my head, trying to weight the benefit... so far its hard to argue against it ...
Possibly. There are still quite a few teams that couldn't afford Garrett on their cap despite the reduced rate you'd be getting him for.yeah, I am not concerned with Garrett's age or contract
my concern is what is the cost going to be in draft revenue?
I draw the line at 2 number 1's. I believe there will be teams offering more
they could wait until the offseason, hire a new management team/hc, and see how the draft order shakes out.Possibly. There are still quite a few teams that couldn't afford Garrett on their cap despite the reduced rate you'd be getting him for.
We'll see. My guess is the Browns do nothing, because that's the most Browns thing to do.
That's what extension means. HOWEVER, there would be some obscene signing bonus of something like $40-50MM that he'd collect right away, so he wouldn't need to borrow his lunch money. If Maye extends in 2027, would his new contract kick in for that season?
Could happen.
Browns are perennially horrible for a reason. They are adept at making horrible decisions.
It would take Garrett becoming completely fed up with his situation THIS WEEK, wanting a trade and throwing rocks (or helmets) inside their glass house.
If Vrabel, Kraft, and Wolf are confident that our first rd picks will be late, giving up 2 of them is reasonable.
There's 30 other teams... even if all of the above happens. So, it's very improbable, but possible.
