Another Taboo Elephant! [Mac Jones playing well in SF]

Mac Jones threw for 152 yards at 5.8 YPA, no TD’s and another interception for a 68 QBR… luckily for the 49ers Christian McCaffrey had 200 yards of total offense and 2 TD’s because Mac was blah yet again. He’s a backup, he’ll earn a lot of money… good for him. Still was a poor first round pick, that whole draft class was a disaster.

Picking in the middle of the each round and having a pick taken away by the NYNFL, I've seen worse disasters than this... Three NFL starting level talents in Jones, Barmore and Stevenson.

The real disaster was Bill deciding to go with MP and JJ to run his offense in 2022 and destroying whatever momentum Mac had from 2021.

2022 clearly more disastrous to me...

Mac played okay for 13 games as a rookie, then fell off a cliff when opponents figured him out.

Offensively the situation he entered with McDaniels, a very good offensive line and weapons was super optimal... he just stunk.

He stunk for the next two years after that... nobody ruined him. Justin Herbert had it far worse and is thriving, Drake Maye had it worse last season... why aren’t they both ruined?

Mac is backup quality at best… nobody ruined him, time and the NFL exposed him.

Marcus Jones WAS the 2022 draft.

Everything good Mac Jones has ever done is a fluke and the credit should go to someone else, meanwhile everything bad he has ever done is 100% on him and there are no mitigating factors whatsoever.

Have I got the irrational nutjob Mac hater act down?

Looks like you're ducking the question about the 2021 draft being a disaster.

Clearly the Pats were QB-needy in 2021, and Mac showed that when put into a QB friendly system he can win games.

Guess what, he's showing that in 2025 as well, so the 'figuring out' thing is actually not a thing.

It's not clear to me what the team could do in 2021 that would have put them in a better position to win, and in fact they did win.

Justin Herbert was picked 6th overall in 2020, so he wasn't an option.

Drake Maye did not have it worse last season. As bad as AVP was/is, the MP/JJ pairing trotted out by Bill was far worse. AVP at least had OC experience, MP and JJ were rank amateurs when it came to coaching offense. AVP is currently a member of the Rams staff as a senior offensive assistant. Both MP and JJ have been demoted to CFB.

Almost. Then absolve Belichick for any role whatsoever he had in Mac Jones not panning out here and you got it down pat. Bonus points for pretending that Belichick was forced or blackmailed to draft Mac Jones and gaslighting everyone to believe that ********.

Everyone knew Mac Jones coming out of college was not a Justin Herbert, he was a Derek Carr / Andy Dalton / Ryan Tannehill.

What we didn't know was Bill needed a Brady in order to go deep into the playoffs, never mind win Super Bowls.

Many of us thought the GOAT coach could find a way to win with someone with Mac's good-not-great talent, but we were wrong.

Given Bill's on-camera comments about Drake Maye, it seems Bill still doesn't know he needs super-star level talent at QB to win big.

Couldn't have said it better.

And we also learned that Mac's "high floor" wasn't nearly as high as we thought. Give him awful coaching like what he had in 22-23 and the bottom falls out.

Happy for Mac. He is playing like an elite backup . You need to ahe talent around him but if a team is stacked , they can win with Mac. For instance Bengals could have a much better record with Mac than what they did with browning and I think that will have value .

Mac knows his limitations so will probably only go to organizations that have a decent team and a QB whisperer .

That's rams, 49ers, lions , commanders, patriots, Vikings and chiefs. Broncos could be a distant second line option.

That Mac still has defenders after everything we've seen from him is beyond belief. Even last night the guy was loose with the ball and was a turnover waiting to happen.

He doesn't have it.

You guys love Mac so much, it's laughable. He really is bad.

Sounds like you're still thinking of him as a Patriot. He's 4-1 and averages 280 yards/game right now. More than adequate for a backup.

That "having it" conversation is long over. He's a backup now and a pretty good one.

Vs Atlanta last night 152 passing- 0 TDs - 1 INT.

Evidently that is playing good.

This says nothing. he had a good stretch with the Patriots. Skylar Thompson has had stretches like this. It's really not impressive at all.

And both are backups. He won't ever be a full time starter again but he's more than adequate as a backup and probably has a decent career in that role.

Yep. It’s the same playbook haters use against a certain former HC. And probably against other targets too, just not as venomously.

I'm sure. I'm fairly shocked that Peterman has had an NFL career as a backup.

Bruh come on. You saw his last two games. It's the Macorkle Experience. One or two good games, and then comes the reversion. It's the same pattern.
