This level is where he should be coaching then move to the nfl once he proves he can do it.

Definitely didn’t come across as professional all (or almost any) of the time, but can’t fault him for trying to win especially if he knew there was no benefit in a higher draft pick to him.I don’t not wish him ill (professionally). He was snarky and hypocritical with nonstop excuses, and then boned the team by winning the last game of the year.
I still root for the vols (unfortunately) from time.to.time... not a rabid college fan...Ahhhhhh now it all makes sense.
Thx Jerod…my Dawgs appreciate the bad juju.

i wonder if Mayo even liked being a head coach.
I blame Wolf for the terrible drafting and personnel decisions, and for his buddy AVP and the offensive staff. But Mayo had responsibility for Covington and the defense, and that was awful too. So, though I respect his attempt to re-configure the way coach and players related to one another, he had to go.
He was an excellent player. But back then, we didn’t know he referred to management as ‘Young Thundercat’. For some reason, learning about this really got to me. It’s not logical, but I cannot deny…i wonder if Mayo even liked being a head coach.
Seems to me he liked it about as much as Harry liked being a WR.
He failed because he wasn’t ready to be the head coach of a pro football team. He was inexperienced and handed a roster that was the worst in the league. The result was painfully predictable.I understand this in the context of BB's approach but will suggest the bolded was among his utmost failures. It sprang from his ego -- that whole "building character in young men and young women" social missionary nonsense queering the introductory presser. The infamous mural illustrating Mayo's self-importance in this respect is deservedly gone along with him.
Some people have to attack and tear down a persons faith so that they feel OK.He failed because he wasn’t ready to be the head coach of a pro football team. He was inexperienced and handed a roster that was the worst in the league. The result was painfully predictable.
I doubt it had anything to do with what you said but whatever fits the narrative people were shaping before he even ran a practice.
