Depth does matter, it’s either legal matters, character or scheme fit.
Sure, but for week 1 if he wasn't starting anyway, it has essentially no impact for that game.

Wow thats nuts. I wonder if White is in jeopardy too, he was another regular out there a bit against the giants with peppers and dugger who was also on the fence.

We’re about to find out.
The one bright side is that of all positions on defense, usually safety is the easiest the find reinforcements as needed. There’s a good reason why they often sit on the FA market.

Safety is a devalued position. The pats are getting with the rest of the league.

It’s annoying they let Wolf extend two of them though.
Safety is an important position. In a game dominated by passing how could it not be?

I’m not saying you spend first round picks on them but you still want good players there.

My feeling is that the team felt Peppers was the third safety, and that Pettus was not a big drop off from Peppers, and that Peppers would become a distraction if he was not a starter anymore. So, cut him, save some money.

It’s obvious vrabel prefers a different type of safety for his defense.

This is one of those areas where I was slightly concerned with Vrabel.

His first two years he had Dean Pees as this DC. They ranked pretty darn well.

2020, Pees left. Vrabel didn't name a DC. Took over play calling in some situations. The defense plummeted. 2021, passing defense was good, but in other areas it was total trash.

I hope his philosophy has improved, or the execution of. Cutting Peppers doesn't signal terror as some are indicating, but talking about his different style did make me think of that.

As for Peppers, that does make me sad. I didn't think he was an all world talent, but he was a leader and he did hit hard af.

The dynamic that I’m curious about is the fact that Vrabel has gotten very icy with a few players in particular. Baker, now Peppers.

I’m hoping it’s a more positive refresh of the locker room: not a sign of a new toxicity.

Wolf probably offered Peppers & Baker and a 3rd Rd for Parsons and when the GB trade went down they weren't needed. Wolf is just a pragmatic guy.

The Titans defenses did not all rank as good as you would think. They could be inconsistent.

Why? Cause he can't cover anybody, that's why. Vrabel wants guys who can cover.

I'm really surprised this didn't happen last year with his legal issues. Just odd that they would do this now, a week before Game 1.

They gain about $2M in cap space this year, about $2M in 2026, and about $8M in 2027.

Am I missing something? According to overthecap.com the Patriots will gain $6.75 million in 2026 cap space by cutting Peppers with a post-June 1 designation.
