It's conjecture that ATL backed out partially because of Hudson. It's certainly not the only reason, but I posted my rationale for making such conjecture that I think is quite clear.
My opinion is that Bill wasn't hired because his bunny chasing cast doubt on his willingness/ability to focus on football which also cast doubt on his judgement, and by being seen as someone who would seek total control even when he claimed he did not need it.
Then we end up seeing him taking a job at UNC when he has near-total control and tried to install his bunny as a de-facto UNC spokesman till the UNC leadership publicly shot that down.
There certainly are people at UNC who see that hiring BB comes with both pros and cons:
