Looking ahead to cutdowns and waiver (EDIT: First names announced)

It made me wonder if Vrabel is trying to get all the cuts done early so his staff has more bandwidth available for evaluating players cut by other teams.
Back when the Pats signed/claimed Woodhead, right after Kevin Faulk's injury, I remember Belichick saying that at that moment, something like "he was the best player not currently on a roster." So I'm guessing they have some people whose job it is to make lists of the players they might want and keep track of other team's rosters during cutdowns.

I remember being told before the draft that we didn’t need an interior OL in the draft because we had Sidy Sow and Layden Robinson. Good times.
Folks seem to know that we needed a center. Many of staff thought LG. They compromised and drafted a center who will start at LG.

It is OG that was misevaluated.

LOOKS LIKE: Strange, Wallace instead of Sow and Robinson.

I'm fine with that.

Strange69 was returning... Brown was an in-house option...And oh yeah there are Always decent Guards available during free agency, but the New boss chose not to follow that particular path... Almost as curious a (non-)move as not signing a vet OLman with LT experience...

Our OL has been one of the worst for the last 3 straight years, so it makes sense that we're just turning the page.
For that reason alone I wouldn't be surprised to see Strange gone. I've been a believer in his potential, but he's firmly on the bubble. And so far, I'd rather have Brown start games at either LG or C than Strange, although he does seem to be a valuable versatile backup at all IOL spots.
Strange came in for Brown last year and played much better than Brown. If it happens that Brown is kept over Strange, it's because Strange is in his last year and they are looking to the future.

Good. They shouldn’t keep anyone based upon draft status. If they don’t think they can be good contributors going forward they should be released.
I think we're keeping Wallace based on draft status.

Getting rid of guys drafted in the 60s in their second year is a very bad look.

Re: Chism IR talk - I was guessing that Kendrick Bourne may be one of the two “IR-DTR” candidates on cutdown day, but perhaps Chism will take that spot himself and they’ll carry Bourne on the day one roster instead.

Yes, it will be disappointing for a player who would have been inactive for 5 weeks might be on IR for 5 weeks.
If he is placed on IR before cutdown, though, he's gone all 17, right?. Only if he's kept on the roster then IR-ed afterwards can he come back

This 2024 draft and offseason is turning out to be one of the abject failures in the history of the league. The draft is 'Maybe you have a QB' and nothing else, and overpaying average players who weren't going anywhere, and if you had lost them, wouldn't have made a difference. Oh, and KJ Osborn. Holy ****.
