Looking ahead to cutdowns and waiver (EDIT: First names announced)

They moved him to the right side. Needless and pointless with Onwenu and the vacancy at LG.

Some guys have trouble moving to the other side. Wynn and Okorafor are two recent examples. But Sow was completely lost as RG.

So one of the few guys Bill drafted who can contribute is wasted.
It was Patricia and Belichick who moved Sow to the right side. Initially, they also moved him to RT which was a flop. Strange was the LG remember. Peters moved him back to LG last camp where he was on his way to starting it appeared until getting hurt in the last preseason game in Washington.

Patricia and Belichick should have tried him at LT where he played some in college rather than change both his position and side. But, of course, their agenda was to force Trent Brown to play LT even though they promised and paid him to play RT.

he's on the list I just read on pft...

linebacker R.J. Moten
running back Micah Bernard
wide receiver Phil Lutz
defensive tackle Kyle Peko
tight end Cole Fotheringham
running back Shane Watts
defensive tackle Philip Blidi
quarterback Ben Wooldridge
defensive back Jordan Polk
linebacker Monty Rice
guard Sidy Sow
tight end Jaheim Bell
defensive back Isaiah Bolden
guard Tyrese Robinson
I only see three PS candidates and I'm not sold on them, Bolden, Watts and Fotheringham.
Speculation:
Were these guys were let go early so that teams could reach out to them prior to cutdowns?
Does that mean that these 14 have no chance at the Pats Practice Squad?
If that's the case, does that mean the Pats are looking for a different 3rd QB??

Interesting:
It's interesting that if the above is true, they didn't release guys like the following:
Marcus Epps (did he even get 2nd team reps?
Jamal Hasty (who stunk, imho)
Terrell Jennings (did nothing)
They will. Epps had nothing last night. Hasty and/or Jennings PS

Sow is a perfect example of the slow dismantling of a winning organization over BB's last 4 years.
Sow provided hope for a team/fanbase that our OL could be rebuilt from the draft, because he survived a few games - even while stinking so bad... That's how bad it had gotten.
Last night he looked like a HS lineman who was thrown on the varsity OL because he was huge, but hadn't ever played a down before.

I thought anyone cut has got to go through waivers. Are cut veterans with certain years in the league allowed to be free agents?
Only players with less than 4 years experience have to go through waivers until after the trade deadline.

He played RG just fine as a rookie. His LG snaps last year were a disaster. There’s obviously more going on than just switching sides.

That WR we signed this week looked fast in and out his breaks, I wouldn’t hate to see him on the PS as well.

I don’t think anyone would leave a pair behind, but you can always hope.

Are waivers on a rolling basis based on when a player is released or do they all go into the waiver pool for Wednesday? In other words, do teams have to wait until Wednesday to pick up released players on waivers even though they're released today?

The difference is Smith was good before coming to New England and was again after. Bell has never shown to be good since being drafted.
Bell was also a 7th round pick. You crowing about it is ridiculous.

Wouldn't you wait to see what happens? I mean... who'd there that warrants moving quickly?

Strange has looked oddly complacent. He's certainly worth more than Sow or T. Robinson as a backup, but he hasn't presented well of late. They'll probably keep 2 out of these last 8 guys. And I bet it's the first 2. (maybe Robinson & Conley stick on the PS)

Strange, Wallace, Jacobs, Lowe, Lindstrom, L. Robinson, Conley, Butler

To build on something I've said before: not only are most 4th rounders leaguewide ultimately "a swing and a miss," nearly every team screws up one of its first three picks every single year.

People, even some who should know better, thrive on others failures and revel in them.

Kinda surprised JMD couldn't figure out how to tap into Bell's skill set, but Westover looked to completely outdo him, and show pretty good versatility - blocking, FB, catching. Not sure Westover makes the 53, unless it's really as a FB.
Maybe Dippre sticks on PS, because we just didn't see him at all.

Sow is Canadian. I'm sure his hometown Montreal Alouettes could use him.

Not that cult.
The even more inexplicable Sidy Sow cult.

Sow was moved to RG in 2023 when they moved Onwenu out to RT. He looked good and looked like he could make it at either OG position.

Marrone was Sow's 3rd O-Line Coach. 4th if you include Yates/ Ferentz taking over for Klemm in 2023.

In 2024, he was bounced all over the place. TE, RT, RG, LG, FB.. He also was on special teams
