David Andrews to retire

I mean....yeah. If the Patriots, with the most woeful offensive line situation last year, can't see a way to use you... kinda says it all.

Great Patriot, very good center.
He was hurt badly enough to have surgery last year.
Played hard through injury for years, and never blamed anyone, b
Instead saying they didn't get it done.
No whining, was a tough MOFO that took blame.
Thanks Captain, True MAN Of The Trench.
Enjoy Retirement.

My wife and I were at a Celtics playoff game maybe 9 or 10 years ago, we spotted several Pats players walking down near the floor behind a basket, there were seven of them and all but one of them were extremely muscular, no body fat, dressed extremely fashionable, then there was David Andrew’s, baggie jeans, t-shirt, a belly, had a beer in his hand and he had his pretty wife with him. My wife said who’s that guy with the Patriots players, I said he’s the starting center, she said he is.

His time will come up. They should do something about the current log jam because one a year isn't going to be enough over the next few years.
I agree.

NFL HoF does ~4 a year so there is a precedent.

There shouldn't be a great outcry if Orchids does 2 a year.

Good Dude, Good Center, Great success story (UDFA to 3X SB Champion), Solid leader and teammate.

Andrews joined the Pats in 2015, he is a two time SB champ LI & LIII

Sad to hear but I suppose it was inevitable.

David was a tribute to the UDFA system and gave the Pats 10 good years. Always liked hearing him speak as it was a mix of down home lingo with a lot of common sense..
Would to see him continue with the Pats in some role, coach of some type??

Gets to spend more time with his wife Mackenzie.
Good for him.

They may be maintains a pool to ensure that there’s always one to get in. It’s been relatively dry in terms of deserving players the last few. Eventually they’ll run out if none of the current generation pans out.

Not unexpected, recovery was probably not going great/lack of interest around the league. Perhaps wasn't worth whatever money he may have been offered. Love seeing a guy wear one jersey but sad for him it's over.

His red jacket awaits

It’s going to be waiting a while, there is a long list for induction. ****, Reggie Wayne hasn’t even gotten in yet.

I like David Andrews but there are a lot of guys that should be considered ahead of him.
He might luck out by retiring at a time when most of the greats have already been retired a few years and when there aren't a lot of great candidates coming up. But there will be a logjam in front of him for a while.

Recent dry pool of deserving players?

Yes, I meant once the dynasty era players are all inducted, the past several years haven’t produced too many memorable players.

Andrew’s and McCourty will probably be the last in from that run.

Right now, Maye and Gonzalez look like the next promising candidates. Hopefully they each have well over a decade remaining on their careers here. If they speed up the process of induction, it might be some lean candidate years waiting for them.

There are plenty of candidates from the past that haven't received consideration because of the success of the last 25 years. Russ Francis, Julius Adams, Fred Marion, Pete Brock, Craig James, Larry Eisenhauer. I'm to old to remember the names now. I'm not saying they are all better than Andrews but they are at least as qualified. I'm definitely in on Francis and Adams. I forgot Sugar Bear.

Yep I misunderstood. Agree.

He does deserve a red jacket but might be considered a borderline HoF candidate or blocked by other more popular names.
Andrews deserves a Red Jacket, but he's not a NFL HoF candidate by any measure.
