Draft worst case has emerged for Pats at 4

What’s going to happen if BOTH hunter and Carter are available at 4?

For most of us this is what's gonna happen...

But somehow Sam would still find a way to be all...

Browns AND Giants not taking qb
Picking 4th in draft with 3 blue chppers
No team has to trade up to 4 to get Sanders
Top LTs all with major downsides
Trade demand for 4th pick likely to be low

They are locked in to having to draft a short armed LT with a 4th overall pick

Not ideal

Pick 38 will be critical
Can not have another draft like last year in roubds 2-7
Sanders sucks.

His Pappy is out there trying to keep his stock up.

NO JEANTY!!! TE, DL, and LB are better picks than Jeanty in the Top 15. I'd even take Tyler Booker for LG than before I'd take a RB. Good RB's (Day 1 Starters can be had on Days 2 and 3. And we have more pressing needs and better choices in the 1st Round than a RB.
How many drafts have we had with lower tiered RB? Who stuck? Stevenson will not hold up all year and looked slow last year. Let's not even conversate Maroney.

We need a power back, a bruiser, a Lynch type of player, Jeanty hint hint. RB can certainly change the dynamics of a team with a young QB with no WRs. Diggs won't be ready week 1. Pick Jeanty, trade back into the 1st round and pick an OT. We need playmakers, baaaaaad.

Left Tackle. Prefer Simmons, will accept Campbell.

It is the best pick the Pats can make this year.
I heard that Simmons is Trent Brown 2.0. Great player, total headcase.

The value of the draft is a top player on a cheap contract. You don't get that with most RB's.

If Jeanty turns out to be the next Barkley, would you want that one on a cheap contract? I've read names being thrown around who would fill T positions but may eventually be guards. That's the chance you take. They either work or dont. I rather take a stud who can help your team now, rather than an experiment. We have gone thru enough of those the past 20 years. No Hunter, no Carter, take the next stud, Jeanty.

A RB being taken in the top 10 has to have elite type ability. If you don't think he'll be potential top back in the league, don't do it.
In this case, even if he becomes that, there are impact players at positions that we actually need, or need more than RB (at least not until day 2 or 3).

There are 3 to 4 RB's who can be quality work horse and dual threat RB's that you don't have to take in the 1st Round. Both RB's out of Ohio State, one from Michigan, Ollie Gordon II, Raheim Sanders, and probably a couple others.

Both QBs will be drafted before us w 90% certainty. At least one will be with 99%

There will be a trade down opportunity.
Really? Who is going to trade up to 4 to draft Campbell? If a team wants Sanders, they can get him later and do not have to trade way up to 4.

If BB was running things, the Patriots would trade down a couple of times and get a guard no one has heard of....as Patriots Nation went nutz.

Barkley got drafted by a bad team and they wasted him for years and it ended up being widely viewed as a bad team that should have gotten a player at a higher value position and wasted both their times.

Will Johnson is a lockdown CB, Mason Graham are 2 that teams may want to jump other teams for. Maybe

I feel confident Ashton Jeanty will go early, probably top 10. Omarion Hampton may be the next best RB in the draft and someone I’d be thrilled with if the Pats took at 38, he was Maye’s college teammate. But I suspect he’ll go somewhere in the latter half of the first round. TreVeyon Henderson I have as third best in the class and should go in the second round.

After that it’s up in the air. Quinshon Judkins is a step down from Henderson, not as explosive and not as good a receiving back. He could go second or third round. After that is anyone’s guess. Cameron Skattebo is popular but might slip to Day 3. Ollie Gordon’s stock dropped this season and is likely a Day 3 pick himself. Guys like Kaleb Johnson and Devin Neal are polarizing as well.

There’s a lot of value to be had at RB in this draft, and I wouldn’t mind if the Pats waited on it for that reason. There are a ton of guys who could challenge Stevenson and Gibson for their jobs. But I will say that Jeanty, Hampton, and Henderson excite me the most.

here's the thing.....

I now firmly believe that both Carter and Hunter will be gone and it is a bad year to have the 4th pick when there are only 3 Blue Chip athletes.

Campbell has 3 years of spectacular tape vs the best competition in the country. Graham might just be a Blue-Chip athlete who also has great tape, but the weight loss thing has people nervous, but I think he's the safer pick over Campbell or Simpson.

Sanders has lost a lot of value over the last few weeks, but I still think there IS a market for a trade down for someone who wants to get ahead of Oakland for a QB. The best scenario I think would be trading down to the Saints at #9 for a second round pick and a 2nd in 26. I think one of Simpson, Membou or Campbell will be there.

IMHO our 2 biggest needs are obviously LT, but I also see Edge rusher as our 2nd biggest need. I think trading one of 2nds and a 3rd should get us back into the mid 20's where we should find one.

Bad luck drafting 4th in a 3 man blue chip draft and having it be such a poor QB year as well. Even Ward isn't as good a prospect or as accomplished as Pennix who was the 6th QB drafted in the first-round last year. BUT I'm sorry I don't know why people are so mad at Mayo for the win last year. You CANNOT coach a player to lose a game. Mayo didn't play a snap and you if you don't play the game of football at 100% you are going to get hurt. IIRC, Mayo played back ups most of the game and didn't do anything extraordinary in the game to win. Our back ups just played a bit better, or rather the Bills back ups sucked more.

There are always trade down options. It only takes one team to want to move up and get a guy he value.

I think Jeanty could be a top back in the league for about 2 years, and then those tires should be completely bald. He had over 400 touches last year.

If Jeanty turns out to be the next Barkley, would you want that one on a cheap contract?
Ask the Giants.
They had him on a cheap contract for 5 years, and got almost 3 years worth of production.
Because he had no tread left on his tires. Gave them 1300 yards his rookie year, gave them 2900 the next four.

Some of the greatest RBs of all time retired ringless.

The best RBs in the current NFL are never bringing titles home, and not, Barkley doesnt count, the whole Eagles team was elite (kudos to their GM)

DO NOT DRAFT A RB AT 4

Team trade down, are you down, down down?
