Patriots Player Departure BREAKING: Joe Milton traded to Dallas

How do you know that to be true. Milton played in one game
He is a better runner than Maye
Could have brought him in for goal line situations.
No creative vision for this front office

Maye can play goal line too. He can do everything Milton can but better.

I didn't think about the Prescott rumors - worth mentioning. I don't know how much validity there is to those, at least right now, but he's in his 30s and has never been all that impressive while also being grossly overpaid so I could see it at some point.
Good points.. dak was a beneficiary of the Brees contract that TB12 wanted.. he's been good but not top 5 IMO.. couple that with getting hurt often having to miss the remainder of seasons over the years..

Yeah.. Once Dobbs was signed I knew Milton was gone.. he has told the organization since last season he would like an opportunity to have a chance to start.. I see this as Vrabel doing as solid for the guy..

They see practice, not one game against a team trying to lose.

This is a big nothing burger, they got rid of issue where morons who will go YA PUT BAZOOKA JOE in every time Maye has a bad game, it's Maye or bust and rightly so.

Remember when people were saying Malik Cunningham was a mistake, this is just part 2 of this.

The fact that no QB hungry team would offer a 4th shows you how the NFL values him.
He would have provided value as a backup and gadget play.

Unless Milton was forcing their hand behind the scenes this makes no sense.

I would take Milton over Shadeur Sanders.

Milton is not better than Maye at anything. The team and the rest of the league agrees with me hence "only" a 5th round pick in return.

WOW, SB1. Since when did you start going around making massive assumptions that are typically left to the idiot brigade?

You have no idea what the rest of the league thought. You only have what WOLF thought. Yes. I believe that WOLF is stupid enough to have NOT gone to other teams and just accepted the first trade that was break even.

Milton is better than most/all of the prospects in the Draft. Trading him downgrades the QB depth. A position you never want to downgrade. Especially when your #1 QB has already had at least 1 concussion that cost him snaps.

What a dumb ****ing return.
Agreed 1,000,000%. If this is the return for him, honestly, I don’t have much faith in the “brain trust” moving forward draft wise. Amateur time.

Again - WHY do people think Milton was worth more than a 5th? He was drafted in the 6th one year ago, so the league valued him as a 6th. All he has done since then was beat Buffalo's 3rd string in a game that his opponent was actively trying to lose. That's not really any different from winning a pre-season game. Whoop dee doo? It elevated his value one round, which is better than nothing.

I don't know why people think that his one game of action against back-of-roster talent and an opponent throwing the game somehow skyrocketed his value. I had him pegged as a 4th at best.
For me it wasn't what he's worth but what is he worth to basically give up on him.

I didn't expect anyone to give up 3 but hoped. I thought a 4 made sense and figured you just keep him for anything less.

Obviously I was wrong on the 4. Time will tell if we should have kept him.

First Maye needs a veteran to help him take that next step. Milton was never it.

I have no doubt if the Patriots had a better offer out there for Milton they would have taken it. There weren't any. There's also no evidence Milton is better than the QB prospects this year plus they have 1 year on him on the rookie contract.

Agreed, everyone thinks he is a superstar already. He still has a lot of developing and improving to do.

I don't think enough people understand just how bad the scenario was last season with the coaching and organization dysfunction.... To have a 22 year old come in with no OL, no OC, no HC and do what he was able to was just utterly impressive. Most rookies would have folded. His potential is top 5.. Drake works his ass off and wants to be great.

He now has the coaching to help him be on his way..

If he wasnt gonna play, how exaclty was his value gonna go up? Im sure he looks great handing out towels.

Anyway, seems like low value but whatever.

I agree with the value in him but as I mentioned earlier keep him and develop him under Josh. I’m sure he would improve more under Josh than AVP. If he looks really good in preseason then if they still want to trade him they would get more value.

Maye is not 100% proven as a quality starter. Keeping Milton for one more year is much better value
I always said the only way they keep Milton is if the team believes he will take Maye's job.

Can't see that happen even if Maye becomes Tua with the concussions and injuries.

Let’s see? He young, cheap, has a very strong arm, has done a whole year of NFL activities, to include, OTAs, training camp, practices, sat in team meetings and the qb room with real NFL coaches and players, has a game under his belt.

It’s not the end of the world but if you think a team can go into the 5th round and get that resume over Milton I don’t know what to tell you. Why defend it?

I thought his value was a 5th. Not a compensatory almost 6th with the Pats giving up a 7th. That’s kind of a sleight against this organization and a win win for Dallas. I don’t think there was some urgency to do this deal as the draft is still weeks away.

So the Patriots got fair market value for Milton. Guess the league wasn't as impressed with Milton as a small group of Pats fans are.
You act like they HAD to trade him. If you could have Josh Dobbs or Joe Milton right now you’d choose Milton. This is even more egregious when you consider Milton is making 700K and Dobbs is making 2M per.

Just hold onto him, don’t trade him for nothing. Dumb. The front office and coaching staff didn’t want to open themselves up to second guessing.

They traded Milton and a 7th for a COMP pick. It's not a true 5th round pick.

Milton was far more than a practice squad player. Your comments show that you didn't actually pay attention to last season.
I didn't pay attention? Yeah, at times that's absolutely true... What I did see, and what I paid attention to was Joe Milton putting on a dog and pony show in a glorified preseason game... and all of a sudden he's worth a 3rd? 2nd? dear god, the sense of entitlement, of "other teams must have him now, gimmee my draft riches!" that careened around the walls in here after that sandlot showing was ridiculous...

so what is he worth?

Hes worth exactly what someone will pay for him - and shocker ( ←to be read with dripping sarcasm, like it was said by Samuel Jackson), its not a pie in the sky day two pick...

the pick is in the 5th round, a comp pick to boot - either the 171st or the 174th... thats his value... i dunno what else to tell you except learn how to cope with the disappointment of having an extra 5th
