Because of how colossal a bust Harry was and the way it's perceived as the "final straw" for Brady in his battles with BB and our overall troubles before and after him drafting that position, people are just mentally scarred. It's PTSD. It's be a long time on this board before anyone here is ever able to make a rational evaluation of that profile of receiver lol

I agree that there is some PTSD with receivers who are basically jump ball receivers, but I also think that on the whole they want Maye to learn to either throw to the open guy, or throw the guy open. They don’t want him deliberately throwing into coverage hoping his guy comes down with it. This is why I want Mathew Golden if they go OT at #4. They will have to aggressively trade up for him to get him, but after Hunter he’s the best separation guy in the class.

Yeah, his play definitely dropped off last year. The whole defense's did though so I wonder how much was him vs. how much was a worse unit around him leaving him exposed.

Will be interesting to see if we make a move in the secondary now. Reports had us interested in keeping him, at some level. Now that he's gone I wonder if we pivot to signing a replacement. Or maybe they already consider Davis his replacement, but my guess is they still need another slot CB as insurance/depth with MJones and AN ACTUAL ****ING FREE SAFETY!!!

My guess is Davis will play outside and they will draft a slot corner on day 2.

That said, I saw Allen play. Hannah was before my time so I’m just going on old film and what I know of that era. Maybe Hannah was more special than I’m aware.

Hannah was most decidedly better than you are aware. Best offensive lineman I ever saw. He was so great we actually went to games to watch a guard play.

Brian Holloway made 3 straight Pro Bowls simply by playing next to Hannah. Holloway got himself a big LT payday from Oakland only to not be able to keep his starter's role without Hannah next to him and was completely out of the NFL in less than 2 years. Hannah was a force

If separation isn’t an issue why did he lead college football in contested catches? And why won’t he run the 40?

I want a big time receiver as much as anyone, but I think MacMillen is a huge risk. And I don’t want Maye having to throw to a covered receiver all the time, even if he is good at bringing them in. I would much rather have any of the other 1st round receivers.

For some reason, getting contested catches has become a bad thing. If he had dropped those passes and had zero contested catches, would you feel better about him? Even the best separators don’t get separation on every play. Additionally, sometimes they do get separation and the ball is under thrown (McMillan’s tape is littered with those situations, his QB sucked).

Only 18 of mcmillans catches were contested. Yet because he’s good at coming down with the ball in that situation, he gets labeled as someone who can’t get open. This happens to good contested catch receivers all time time. You can be good at both.

I've got that signed SI framed and hanging in my den opposite a signed Hannah jersey. The SI was a gift from my son, the jersey from my wife. Safe to say the reverence with which I spoke about him made an impression. Hannah taking the field was like Orr coming over the boards, your eyes were automatically drawn to them. A friggin' guard but you just watched him, couldn't help it.

He’s slow and bad at getting open. If he wants to disprove that he can run at his pro day. He’s been sliding in the rankings but still refused to run at the combine. I think he’s afraid of a 4.6 time.

Arian Smith of GA is often WIDE OPEN.

But drops a ton of passes.

Is it better to have a freak athlete who gets separation but can’t routinely catch, or a good athlete who may not get wide open but catches most balls anywhere near him?

I know it’s the hardest part by far but if this team had a legitimate #1 receiver Bourne,Hollins, Boutte, Hooper and Henry would be a pretty decent receiving corps.

I know #1 don’t just fall from the sky, but it seems like there’s a shimmer of an actual NFL offense brewin

If you are talking doing it in college How about neither?

Tet was 94.3% percentile separation vs zone coverage. Overall was 74th percentile.

However, he was open only 53.6% vs man and in the 39th percentile. Separation vs man has been a key statistic in success from college to NFL. It's HIGHLY correlated to success.

Travis Hunter was in the 67th percentile getting open vs man and 71st percentile in success vs man. That was 2023, I can't find updated data for 2024 yet.

Agree to disagree. It’s fine. Marvin Harrison refused to run last year. It means nothing. I think A 4.6 time would make McMillan a 1,000 yard receiver with his skill set. only time will tell. Nobody truly knows, including nfl GMs

I’m not in love with Tet, he reeks of “ok” to me. He’ll be in the NFL and probably for a lot of seasons but I’d anticipate a lot of 800 yard 6 TD seasons. But what do I know.

This is a team that needs something dynamic on offense. If you’re going to reach for an offensive player go Jeanty
