Buried in here is that it appears the Patriots might be going forward with Romo over Slye as our kicker:

9. Here's the kicker: With incumbent kicker Joey Slye an unrestricted free agent, and no movement toward a deal, the Patriots currently plan to move forward with John Parker Romo as their lone kicker under contract before likely adding competition in the coming weeks/months, according to sources familiar with their thinking.

Romo, 27, has appeared in four NFL games -- all last season with the Vikings (11-of-12 on FGs, 7-of-8 on PATs). He finished last year on New England's practice squad.

Well, there will obviously be a second leg in camp.
Will it be an NFL vet, or an undrafted rookie?

I doubt they would re-sign 40-year old Nick Folk, but who knows?
Eddie Piñiero (Panthers) is a better vet option.

Tyler Loop (Arizona), Ryan Fitzgerald (FSU), Andres Borregales (Miami), Ben Sauls (Pitt) are some that appear to be the top rated college kickers.
Don't know enough about any of them other than to throw their names out there.

They kept the special teams coach, so presumably they know if Romo is good enough to win the starter’s job.

Chad Ryland was named an NBC Pro Bowl alternate. Too bad we can't get a kicker like that.
I know people hated him because of the draft position, but it felt like the team gave up on him too quickly because he was a Bill pick and everything had to be the opposite of Bill last year.

That is exactly it. I think @State and @captain stone were the top haters. Egg on their faces now. They wanted Slye and Folk. LOL.

Slye was not that great last year. He wasn’t awful but really didn’t do much more for you than a lot of street free agent kickers would… If they like Romo then I guess why not. Maybe they’ll draft a kid.

There'll definitely be competition. I wonder if they'll bring back Folk.

Bring in a vet, even slye, and an Udfa, or more, and have a competition... Don't think the role will just be handed to romo

I have no problem with going with Slye again, he started well but then became a little inconsistent at the 2nd half of the season but we are not competing for championship to have a need for premium kicking unit. FGs are important to win close games though, they spent a lot of money yesterday and will spend more, they will have to trim some budget in other areas, if they feel they can go with a rookie I'm ok with that too.

I pray to the Lord above that if they draft a kicker, he'd better be destined for Canton. I don't want to listen to the usual suspects *****ing about a wasted late round pick.

With that said, Ryan Fitzgerald has a very Boston name.
