Well yeah he’s actually held positions higher than a position coach for a number of years so he is 10 times more qualified than Mayo was. But he’s still a bad hire
Feels kind of like an old school approach. Back in the day you'd almost never see someone hired without a decade of experience coordinating or HC in college. And they'd need more success than just 1 conference championship appearance too.

Problem is Schotenheimer has the decade but not the success. But even still he made it to more conference title games than Ben Johnson who only has 3 years as a coordinator and appeared in one conference title game.

Seeing the underwhelming HC hires the last couple days, gotta give Thunder props for closing the Vrabel deal so early in the hiring cycle.

Yeah his resume is good as far as list of titles held, but not as far as results. But the reason he got so many opportunities was thanks to who his dad is… so…

Don't get me wrong it's a bad hire I just find it frustrating how quickly some of these guys ascend now a days especially on the heels of doing it with Mayo. And I find the Ben Johnson/Schotenheimer comparison a compelling case.

To me and for obvious reasons Bill comes to mind as he needed a decade and 2 rings before he got his opportunity and then to get his second opportunity he needed to go to another SB in 96 and a conference title game in 99 with NYJ. And even then many were skeptical.

Somewhere along the way teams got afraid of the rehires. And now everyone seems intent on finding the diamond before they even prove themselves and I don't think either is great for the coaching in this league.

I generally agree but Ben Johnson isn’t the best example. Liam Coen would be a good example. 1 year as OC, inherited a very good offense, didn’t elevate it beyond what it was the year before, didn’t even make it past the wild card round, becomes an HC. ???

Jerry Jones cannot get a front line coach to run his team because he wants a coach who does his bidding. They won't win until he decides to get out of the way.

I’ll be shocked if Brady doesn’t get the Orleans job that Buff offense is firing on all cylinders.

So dumb. If they re-sign McCarthy then Schotenheimer stays as OC and they have both.

But they really should have been the ones to do anything for Bill. NFL gets robbed because Jerry couldn't do the right thing.
My guess is Bill is done with the NFL. People keep saying stuff like this, and he in my mind told them thank you but no thank you.

Well for many Cowboy fans ... it didn't move.

Remember when the Cowboys were the final boss in the 90’s? Had Jerry not got in the way, I think they would’ve won a total of 4 Super Bowls before teams like the 1998 Vikings and 1999 Rams showed up.

I do think he’s a vanilla pick, but that’s kind of who the cowboys are. When was the last time they hired a coach who could stand up to Jerry? Tuna? I figure this will just be more of the same for them. The problem for them is that their division is brutal now. At least they have the Giants to beat up on.

I remember someone in Dallas media writing that the problem is Jerruh insists on being the face of the franchise.

Schottenheimer, by my count, has had five stints as OC. One in college (Georgia), three in the NFL (STL, IND, SEA), and one in hell (JEST).

Also, Mayo reminds me of when the Bucs promoted Raheem Morris to HC, firing Jon Gruden, b/c they supposedly were afraid they were going to lose Morris to another team. Of course, the key difference between the two is that, at the time, Gruden hadn't given the Bucs the justification for moving on that Belichick did with Kraft in '22 and '23.

I feel bad for the cowboys fan base... i really do. They are the most profitable and recognized brand in almost all of sports...

Dudes in Khazikstan probably know who the cowboys are when the nfl is brought up.

Cowboys fans aren't even annoying anymore.
I miss annoying cowboys fans. They used to have pride.

Nothing now... the fan base( guys like us who want our team to do well and inform others of trades drafts stats attending games in person and discussing it in a message board)

They are all just kinda lost.

They can draft and pay out the ass for injury prone qbs that arent worth the money... they can spend all the money in the world...

But that ain't gonna get rid of Jerry.
