Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

All things being equal, nothing changes on this current team except Bill is head coach, avp remains and Mayo and Steve are working the defense and this team probably has 8 or 9 wins.

Maybe even 10.
Getting a top HC and his top DC will indeed give us a good chance at the playoffs. As I've said, I'm also fine with a GM; I just wouldn't fire Wolf.

The $140M plus the draft picks will take care of adding players. Plus, of course, players on Defense will be back from injuries and those healthy will be playing better for a coach that they have at least some faith in.

I don't understand this at all.
The offseason and the draft all fall at the feet of Eliot Wolf. Why wouldn't you fire him?

If we get blown out against the bills back ups, there will be hope he is gone. Before kraft makes his decision, he should get a tug at a massage parlor. He needs to have post-nut clarity to make the right decision to fire mayo.

There was one day Rod Rust was nearly electrocuted as coach.

Rust lasted only one year.

Maybe lightning strikes twice.
Statistically speaking, lightning has been documented as striking twice (or more) in the same place.

What will be the motivation for players coming into TC playing for him? Players flat out quit yesterday. The season will be already lost in the off-season. Can't really come back from this.

This team won 4 games last year with Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe. They upgraded massively to Drake Maye this year, largely kept the same team otherwise, and somehow are only at 3 wins with a week to go. Tell me how it’s not all on Mayo?
That shows how good of a coach BB was but he also put the team in a bad position.

You can't be serious, 10 wins with this roster, no freaking way.

I am serious. They been in almost all these games and no way is Bill giving up 30 plus points per game like Mayo is.

It's not even a debate. Maye and Bill starting in game 1 of the season is doing a whole lot better than the 3 win team you looking at.

Coaching is making sure the players are consistently focused on details, consistently know what their role is, consistently putting players in position to be successful.

I have not seen that at all. The only thing I see is Mayo blaming players for not executing and communicating. Well, why are they not executing? Why isn't he getting them to play more consistently?

It's because he think he can be their friend, tell them they need to focus and that will be enough. Clearly it is not.

During his postgame presser yesterday, Mayo kept blaming things on "not being consistent." The assumption is he was referencing player performance, but I wish a reporter would have asked, "Where, specifically, has the coaching not been consistent?"

Bill would have traded out of 3 last draft, so he wouldn’t have had Drake. They’d be a 5-6 win team.

No he wouldn't.

This is the same guy who wasted a first round pick on the 5th QB off the board.

Also, his GM duties were stripped and he was according to reports fine with it. (In a scenario where it saved his job)

The team had 4 wins with Bill last year. You can say "well we have Maye". Let's be real, Maye is still going to be held back by the worst WR corp and worst line in the league. There's a clear cap on what Maye will do in this offense.

This is not a 10 win or even 8 win team with Bill or any other coach. Maybe they get to 5 or 6 with some luck. But this team is just dreadful.

Mayo is part of the problem, but the talent has been the core problem and has been for near half a decade at this point. It's time for people to wake up to that and stop thinking this is some secretly good team that is let down by one person.

The Bills, Chiefs, Chargers, Ravens, Steelers, Eagles, Commanders, Lions, Vikings, Packers are the only 10 or more win teams in the NFL. It's beyond delusional to think that this team is just a coach swap away from having a chance to be in the same tier as them. They don't.
How many times have we witnessed a Belichick team with less talent beat a more talented team in the last 20+ years? The game is played on the field not how stacked a roster looks on paper. Belichick more often than not confused the other teams qb and took away what they do best. He had fundamentally sound teams. Unfortunately Bill lost his fastball and the rest is history. Mayo needs to go.

“Not being consistent” and “not executing”, AKA “the players did bad”, AKA “not my fault”

We had an incident a few years back where lightning struck someone standing next to a highway.

When two police showed up to investigate lightning struck them too.

Right, but he wasn't specific so that leaves it open to interpretation. Which is why I wish a reporter would've pressed him on whether that includes coaches "not being consistent." That would put him in a corner, since he also said in the same press conference that he has complete faith in the coaching staff. An obvious followup would've been, "Isn't it the coaches' job to get players performing consistently?"

Mayo is so in over his head it's not funny.

“I have complete faith in the coaching staff, and also, we didn’t execute and weren’t consistent” means it was the players fault. I agree with you that I wish someone had “gotten him” on that one. But there were already other opportunities, like with the Rhamondre start that shouldn’t have been.

What if this was all a secret plot by the Krafts? They knew they wouldn’t be able to get the best staff to come to NE last year, so they hire an idiot coach and de facto GM, make sure the GM drafts the QB, and don’t let them really spend much cash, then watch as things set up. They know going into 2025 they’ll probably have a high pick again and a lot of cap space, and hopefully a good QB already rostered, which makes the job much more attractive to GMs and HC candidates. Now on the verge of the end of the season they may end up with #1 overall which is perfection of such a plan.

Drake Maye, the #1 overall pick that can be moved for a haul, and the most cap space in the league? They can probably persuade any candidate they want with that description…

(I wish this was true)
