Just an idea for a "statement" pick.

(Assumes Miami picks first in Round 2)

What do we give up? What do we get?

I heard on ESPN that if Parcells goes to Miami, he might bring Bowles from Dallas over there probably as coach. I doubt they see value in a trade with us.
PS: While taliking about Dallas. They said Dallas can't afford to retain Pro Bowl Safety Hamlin because their cap is a bit full at the moment. Maybe we could help them out by taking James or Carpenter off their hands.

Umm Miami is also going to have the #1 overall pick in the draft. You're suggesting that the Pats drop out of the 1st round entirely? I don't much like that idea.

In that vein, I can see the agent for the #32 pick trying to get him first round money ('he was picked with the pick that was the last pick of the first round, or should have") while management counters, (" no he was pick with the top pick in round 2") .
Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't picks #1-16 allowed 6 yr deals while #17-32 can sign a five year maximum contract?...I wonder if it was written as
picks#17-32 or the bottom half of the first round. The actual wording could make the difference in the length of the contract. Hey, it's Parcells' problem unless the Pats get the pick ..........
