Expect to Pay $20M-$30M For a Top WR

22 WR's now earn $20M or more year. Of course, the average salary goes up every year.

Who cares? PAY IT. When the hell did Boston sports teams get so ****ty cheap? The redsox and now the patriots? (Although I believe that Brady covered up a lot of cheapness…). RK needs to take a lesson from the Fenway group….your BRAND it taking a major hit.

The open question is how to allocate cap money, given the market at various positions. Is it worth $30M of cap money for a WR, or could the cap money better used for say fwo $15M a year players at other positons.

I’m fine with that. They are all Belichick holdovers, and they couldn’t scout WR’s to save their lives.
When Wolf said that they were getting rid of the old scouting documents and rewrite criteria. They must have thrown out the new ones and kept the old ones. lol

It matters when it comes to keeping your best players, and signing guys who will really help. Overpaying mediocre players never pays off, and it really hurts teams that are trying to get over the hump to win Lombardi’s. I have no problem with paying great players top money, but you kill your team when you waste it on jags.

Never saw that. Link?

And once again, I’m fine with firing all of them and hiring a new scouting department.

I agree. But what happens when those best players are just JAGs?

How about draft a cost controlled Stud WR # 1 at number 3 overall? Solves the problem. Then you can spend in other areas.
Why do we simply ASSUME that we will be able to sign two top OT's in free agency that we can depend (that are relatively healthy)?

1) Currently, our OT's are Lowe, Jacobs and Wallace. Lowe and Wallace could be OK backups in 2025, or not. In 2026, or not.
Repeat ten times until it sinks in.
==========
2) It is very difficult to get solid starting, healthy OT's in free agency, and almost impossible to get a stud starting LT.

==========
3) We will see where we are at OL come draft time. we could be very comfortable with the IOL's. Plan One must be to try to draft two starting OT's. There is absolutely no guarantees of getting a 2025 starter in the Draft. One of the OT's is likely to be a one-year ot two year bridge. Even then, we would likely draft an OT, just not in the top 50.

3) Our hopes for 2025 and 2026 depend on the OL.
For the future, we have Onwenu and a couple of potential starters and backups. Let's be clear. We COULD be OK going into the draft. We could sign two solid starting OT's (not great starters, perhaps not even above average). We might see a bit of progress out of Lowe, Robinson, Wallace and/or Jacobs. We might be fine inside next year with Onwenu/Strange/Robinson/Sow and Andrews/Brown/Andrews. And, of course, we will bring in more competition for the backups.

Id take a flyer on Godwin assuming he comes with a lower price tag. As far as Holland, I’d just like someone that’s more of a true FS and it’s my understanding that’s what he does. I was looking at guys that would match mgteich’s comment about 2 under 30M instead of one guy at 30M.
I definitely understand where your going. Those WR salaries like QBs are going continue to climb. There is really no way around not paying unless we draft and develop and then we still would have to pay a guy. Godwin has had consecutive seasons of serious injuries.. I'd rather go with a trade for Olave or DJ. Out in Chicago. Holland is a nice player.. but we have 3 good safeties in Dugger, peppers and Hawkins. This season all 3 couldn't stay on the field together much to gel. Trading for Olave makes the most sense he's on his rookie deal.

Holland won’t get 30, he’s a safety. I think $22 would make him the highest paid safety in the NFL.

I had initially talked about higgins in the 30 range. I threw up holland and godwin as 2 under 30 possibilities. This was assuming godwin gives an injury discount and a 1 yr prove it type of deal. So for around the same amount, who do you prefer? Higgins or holland and godwin? Im no capoligist though so the difference in salaries might be more drastic than I am guessing.

Higgins looks like Jerry Rice compared to the replacement-level WRs we have. Sign the beast
More like Practice squad eligible.
