GR8 meant no disrespect, getting Howie is better. I guess I was venting on the "everything is wrong" and not offering a better way. I have been lurking on this board for a long long time and it use to be filled with thoughtful commentary. Maybe people are still grieving the end of a dynasty but look around the NFL (or even other sports) in general you have to hit some level of a low and rebuild. That is where we are and while I too believe there are better folks out there to run it, we are not Jac, NYJ, NYG, LV Raiders or many many others. We may have solved our QB, there is a plan (we can and should debate if it is a good one). Shoot look at this year and all we rightfully have to complain about and look at the AFC standing. Mia and NYJ are carrying a ton of dead money into future years and our W/L is competitive with them. We have not traded away future draft picks for win now, quick fix. Continue to play the long game for a bit and have some patientance, used to be that was all we had if you are as old as me. Keep the faith

I will feel a lot better about next season if Kraft cleans house and turns the operation over to someone with real experience and success in the NFL, and who has a Rolodex of like skilled people who want to come on board.

I happened to hear part of Mayo's radio interview today. He shared that he speaks to Kraft on a daily basis. He also spent a good deal of time disparaging the roster which I found to be a discouraging message to the team. Long story short, the fix is in and Wolf will be the one to go first.

Others in this thread have covered some of what I am going to mention and thank to those that did for injecting some sanity into the discussion. Below are some rhetorical questions that you all know the answer too but I think some folks are forgetting.

- This was a 4-13 Team without a league average Qb, it got out scored by 130+ points. How many starters from last year would have started on the Bills? So you fire and dismantle a front office run by the same person for 20yrs and fire (deserving I think at that point) a HOF coach, rebuild a front office and basically hire a new coaching staff.

- So you the GM inherit a team devoid on talent and you have a rebuild on your hands.

- You draft a potential franchise QB whose only negative I ever saw was he needs more work. He was also the youngest 1st RD QB and has room to grow significantly.

- You have issues getting FA's to come because you not a great football team and they can make the similar money on better teams, many in low tax states.

- If you can't get the FA's you want you don't overspend and field a roster with slightly more potential talent then last year but, you have 30 mil to carry over to next years cap because you did not overpay.

- You aren't winning a Super Bowl so you trade veterans for more draft picks

The above is not really just my opnion there a lot of facts there. So how it the front office doing a bad job?

Just FYI, McCarthy is younger. I agree with most of what you said, but I think the narrative of players not wanting to sign here are exaggerated. This is speculation because I don't know if this is true or not, but it seemed that Wolf stopped pursuing the OL after Chuks signed. Imo, that is egregious neglect. I am hoping that now that they know what they have in Maye they are willing/able to build a good OL for Mondre and Drake.

I am hesitant because of the seeming lack of attention to the OL, but like I said, it is speculation because there were no reports suggesting they spoke to other OL after Chuks. I was fine with Chuks but felt there should have been another addition or 2 during FA.

Actually says lots about this young man trying to galvanize his team , which in turn is credit to his coach? Kid is on board .. I’m guessing he’s taking the coaching, plus sees all the potential around him. I’m hoping this is a good step, even though might be small, but in the right direction. Haven’t felt this good about a win in years

I see people are becoming optimistic.

I like optimism, I can go with it to a degree.

BUT I'm also a realist.

The NFL is one big crudshow this season.

It shouldn't be lost on people that our last 2 wins were against teams that are devolving in the Jets and Bears.

And last week we lost to a terrible team in Tennessee.

We went into the season with SOS showing the Patriots had the toughest schedule in the NFL.

Yet this looks like the weakest slate since Matt Cassel went 11-5 in 2008.

Ya but … it was a win. And they are changing every week. Slowly getting better ?

No matter what, this is a learning, growing, evolving experience with rookies at HC & QB.

I don't mind leading the league in punts, if the offense is still scoring and controlling the game with the rest of the drives.

Three and outs suck. And, most often they're the result of AVP throwing it on early downs.

But, even as much as he's sucked, I won't rule out AVP improving the next few weeks.

I'm a Pats fan. I'm rooting for it.

Could just be wishful thinking on my part. I actually like Mayo, but I don’t like the coaching job he and his staff have done so far this season. And I don’t think you need just a franchise QB to win Super Bowls, you also need a great coach ( although there are exceptions). And finding a great coach is every bit as hard as it is to find a great QB. So if they see one available then I’m all for cutting ties with Mayo and going for it.

Wolf has been pretty clear that he looks at this year as an evaluation year for who to keep next year. While there is a lot of merit to that strategy, Wolf has been too rigid in his approach. OL is too important a position to ignore when bringing in a new QB. I hope Wolf learned that spending short term money on veterans to plug holes and allow draft picks to develop is not the same as spending the same money on flashy veterans to win a game or two more the next season. I also hope that Wolf is going to build a playoff team now that Maye has done enough to allow the team to invest in other positions.

I think we've turned the corner to respectability. It's not surprising that it would take the first half of the season to adjust to all the new-ness and play through all the injuries on both sides of the ball. We've won 2 of the last 3, with the L being in OT. We're gonna beat the Rams Sunday, will win 3 more to finish 7-10, and the 2 killer losses to Seattle and Miami will cost us the 7th seed.

Another way to say that:

There are five teams in the league with records worse than the Patriots.

A week ago one of those teams took the Patriots to overtime and then beat them.

If Mayo is disparaging the roster publicly after talking to Kraft every day it clearly means Mayo has Kraft’s ear, and Wolf is on the way out.

The problem is that that kind of **** works pretty well and this thread is a great example.

You'd never know that the team came off a pretty dominant performance.

I think they liked Anderson and Lowe and probably hoped Wheatley would progress, plus probably figured they’d bring in an OT in the draft. So they overrated Chuks and the two other holdovers at OT that Wolf and Groh helped bring in last year. That’s disturbing.

Equally disturbing is their misses in acquiring IOL. They expended draft and FA capital on Sow, Jake Andrews, Mafi, Robinson, and Leverett and have bupkis to show for it. I’ll give them credit for Jordan and Brown but there’s been a lot more misses than hits.

Mayo’s not going anywhere, for political and ego reasons, The Scatback and The Nebbish aren’t going to admit their screw up there after one year. Ron Wolf’s kid and Al Groh’s kid will take the hit, and as exemplified above they will richly deserve their severance checks.

I see this season as the first step in rebuilding to a consistent contender for the long term. Getting a franchise QB is the most important piece of that rebuild, as you don’t win championships without one. It looks like Maye is that franchise QB they needed, although he obviously has a lot of growing to do. The next step is building a great OL, and I think that is where Wolf has to devote this offseason, and possibly the next one to building a great OL. They should be able to get their left tackle in the next draft, although it’s unlikely they will be Orlando Pace or Trent Williams, a guy like Will Campbell could be a Matt Light caliber LT, and that’s definitely good enough to win with. They will have to address the interior OL in free agency, as this draft is light on high quality interior linemen. However, if Wallace can turn into their right tackle then Onwenu can move back inside, so Center might become their real priority. I had hoped that Will would take JacksonPowers -Johnson, or Will Grier with their 2nd round pick last draft, but he opted for Polk instead, and while I still think Polk will be a good player, I think the C would have been the better choice.

We should have a really good idea when this season ends of exactly what pieces they need to get, and what pieces they have, to get to the place where they are in the hunt for a playoff spot, which should be the case next season. My guess is that Mayo survives this season, but that he will be fired if they don’t make the playoffs in 25’. At which point they better have a really good idea of who they want to coach them for the long term, as franchise QB or not they won’t be winning championships without one.
