Why is it not Mayo’s fault that professional football players are not doing their jobs?
It always is a coaches job to prepare the players and put players in position to succeed. However this picture in Foxboro isn't new. We've been watching it that past few seasons. Bill was still a legendary HC he didn't forget how to coach.. mayo and Bill both have the same problem a talent deprived roster.

Exactly. He defends his Xs and Os by blaming players not being in position, as if that absolves him. Which of course it doesn't, it only serves as more ammo to criticize him. The fact he can't see that is baffling.

Both Jets starting safeties are out, old friend Jalen Mills will be seeing a lot of playing time.

Good defenses do better than the Pats have done allowing almost 30 points per game against good teams as opposed to half of that against bad teams.

White is pedestrian. Come on now. He's a worse version of Trey Flowers. Like Flowers, they can't take over games with their god given ability.

Yes, they were the most untalented in 2001 overall. Although they were coming off of bad seasons, they still had Pro Bowl and All Pro players in Law, Milloy and McGinest. They had complementary players in Bruschi and Johnson. Then they brought over hungry veterans in Cox, and Phiffer and other players such as Pleasant, Hamilton in 2000, Otis Smith, Terrell Buckley. Comparing this defense to the current Pats defenses is an insult to the 2001 team.

The offense was the major problem with no help for Bledsoe at WR on the outside besides Glenn, no TE and the OL and Antowain Smith were not going to scare anyone.

With that said, they had a losing record against teams .500 and above and would've possibly missed the playoffs had they not had a last place schedule.
I disagree about everything you say here 100%. The D played well under Belichick and you're adding pick 6s and turnovers to points allowed by the defense, which makes no sense.

McGinest made the Pro Bowl only 2x in his NFL career, Ty Law wasn't a Pro Bowl regular (he made it once in his first 5 years) until Belichick got here.

But the point is, they looked at players like the ones you listed as UNTALENTED. It wasn't until Belichick molded them that they were lauded as good players. They developed UNDER Belichick.

No talent. Simply put. Can't ask a plumber to be an interior designer.

Boutte was not a 4.2 guy before his 2 ankle surgeries. Boutte and Thornton are not similar in speed. Thornton is really fast and Boutte is average. There is more to being a WR than speed, but let's be honest about raw physical ability.
No way. Playing speed. Thorton hasn't blown any corner away that I have seen. Thorton has been strapped big time!

I just want to know how other Pats fans cope with this tragic season. I myself only focus on the Patriots so as a sports fan after these 6 years an looking forward the great times are gone. It was so much fun, especially the locker room high fives and Bru speeches..

You say this like Tyrod Taylor wouldn't light us the **** up. They have a better chance if Rodgers stays in.

You really would rather face Rodgers than Tyrod? I sure wouldn’t.

Jets .... 2-5
Patriots 1-6

Where's that numbers guy?
Jete win 25-16?

Yup, you are right. It is done for now.

It will only get better when they draft well, add quality FAs, and play the Xs and Os well. That is why so many posters are disappointed in Mayo and Wolf. More wasted years ahead with rookie management.

FWIW, seeing that Vegas didn't favor us in a single game this year before the season started. we knew it was going to be bad. In a bizarre way, it takes the pressure off. During the good years, I used to worry about us losing. Now, no need to worry, haha. I'm just focusing on how the players are developing, especially Maye, and just taking it pretty lightly. Still look forward to sunday and enjoy it. Better days are ahead.

You can keep disagreeing all you want, but they are 5-19 within the last the last two years. If the defense was good, Bill would still be here.

The defense doesn't get a pass just because someone throws a pick six. The defense has shown plenty of times to not show any resistance to the opposition and they would've found a way to score on them anyways.

Law had about two good years under Bill (2001, 2003) with 2000 and 2002 being down years.

McGinest was a better overall player in the 90's.

Not watching as much. Weather has been excellent here still. So plenty to do outdoors. Riding the bike tomorrow during part of the game.

I agree that booty is not a 4.2 guy but when 100% he is a high 4.3 low 4.4 guy. This is why I said good-great speed. Booty is good speed and TT is great. There is more to being a WR than speed but speed can open the offense by making the defense respect speed. I felt like I was being honest about physical ability.

Sounds good. Great post.

I've reconciled myself to just following Maye's progress. Ditto for the other rookies, though disappointed so far.
