Tom Brady had a great game today...

Well, we'll just have to agree to disagree. I counted probably 5 poorly thrown balls, 1 bad decision, and 9 drops, at least.

I believe that the problem here is that you believe that any pass that the receiver gets a hand on and drops is the receivers fault. And that is where we differ. I saw at least 4 balls "dropped" that were bad passes to begin with. It saws something about the quality of the receiver that they got a hand on a bad pass.

No, I'm counting nine passes that were in the hands of the receivers and they flat out dropped. I'm not talking about balls on the fingertips and such. Gaffney alone had three passes hit him square in the hands, that he flat out botched.

Stats be damned. His receivers were flat out awful, dropping everything in sight, the wind was bad, the sleet and rain was worse, and he wasn't as accurate as normal, but despite all that, he made one bad decision all day (the pick), and outside of a nice effort by Maroney was the only thing keeping the offense moving at all. He put the ball where it had to be when it had to be there, and made the big throw to Moss at the end, and his stat line would have been a lot better if not for his receivers completely sucking the whole day.

(On a similar note, Seymour FINALLY looked to be getting back to his old self. It's been too long since he dominated a game by himself.)

I think that the team is sort of going through a lull where even the Jets can't get them inspired enough to bring the 'A' game.

Oh well. A win is fine with me, and I don't want to throw Brady under the bus considering he only threw one pick. We have seen him throw four picks in games before, and still come back and play well...

No worries. On to next week.

Still hoping that Brady gets his TD record, still hoping we win out, and glad we can still win UGLY!!!!!!!!! :rocker:

Some Patriots fans seem to forget how good a defensive coach Mangini was ... especially in the secondary. We won our 3rd Super Bowl in 2004 with several JAGs in the secondary ... it was Mangini who drew up many of the blueprints for the games.

Mangini may be a rat and all that other stuff but he hasn't forgotten how to be a great secondary coach. He had Brady thinking things over a fraction of a second extra on a day Brady was not his sharpest.

Let's give credit where it is due ... it was a good plan to contain Brady and we have a great team that can win a number of ways ... it is what it is.

I thought Brady was just a little too greedy today, looking downfield to Moss when the conditions really didn't allow it. I would have liked to have seen a bit more dink and dunk on early downs to move the chains.

This was one of Brady's stinkers. If this is his worse, AMEN!

He just looked uncomfortable all game to me, never confident. Maybe he didn't like the game plan or the play calling. Some of those calls were horrid.

[running on 3 and 7 in the 4th Qtr] - WHAT!?!?!?!?!?

*ROFLMOA* WOW. I guess you ignore the defensive person making a good play... Which is what happened to Gaffney on 1 occasion... So, if you are counting those as drops, its no wonder you think Brady did great and the receivers are to blame for everything.

OH, and how can Gaffney have 4 drops when they only went to him 5 times the entire game according to the play by play? Gaffney had 2 receptions. One of the incomplete passes resulted in an Illegal Contact call on the defense?

My thoughts exactly. No screens? No slants? Eh, whatever. It's a win, baby!!!

Look, it was an ugly game, played under ugly conditions, against a team who was playing their playoff game. The Jets were lucky the conditions were what they were.

That's all it was. Nothing more and nothing less.

He's a good game manager. If we could just get him some receivers.

Seriously folks, we led all the way. Nothing else really matters except the encouraging power running of Maroney because he coulduse the confidence.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say we are pretty well set at QB and receiver no matter what happens in an individual game.

Good post!
I bet Brady would love the TD record, but at the end of the day he would toss it (excuse the pun) out the window for another Lombardi. Wouldn't we all...?

It's all about the W's.

"Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing" They named the trophy after that guy.

I'm not sure which specifics you two are jawing over. Did you see the game in Dallas? I know at least twice Gaffney dropped balls that were clearly on him. Richter's bigger point in this thread seems to be lost on you in you desire to be confrontational, one of your rare shortcomings... The receivers aren't getting consistently good seperation, and they are muffing some easy catches. Been this way for a few games now. That is when Brady looks to the two guys he trusts to catch the ball most of the time, Welker and Moss. Moss is a risk reward where the reward generally outweighs the risk given where those throws are going.

I actually thought Brady looked ill today. Normally he is much more vocal than he was and there was like no life in him when they showed him on the sidelines. I wouldn't be happy playing in that weather today either but he just didn't seem to be himself.

I thought the same thing and then my brother reminded me on how they mentioned last week during the game that Tom Martinez, his mentor since 13, was ill and that the Brady family sent out well wishes. He was asking if something maybe happened to Martinez since Brady seemed out of it and not connected in the game and thought maybe it was something personal since he was not seemingly 'UP' for the J-E-T-S.

Just wondering

I'll claim whatever I like, thanks. And I say he had a great day, damn the results. He made everything happen in that passing game despite awful receivers and spotty protection. People will say he had great protection, but aside from that one long pass to Moss he missed where the offensive line stoned the Jets' pass rush, they didn't look too great to me. Most of the time Brady was throwing off a three step drop, and the Jets were still forcing him to step up and make throws quickly. The near sack he turned into a completion to Welker late in the 4th to keep that drive alive was huge.

I'm pretty sure Brady wouldn't say he had a great day. Say what you want, there's was nothing "great" about the passing game's performance today. More like serviceable, if that.

Brady played a winning game today. end of discussion. Brady made the plays when he needed to and stats be damned he made some huge plays when it counted. Remember this is how we won three superbowls

Its not a matter of being conforntational. Its a matter of acknowledging reality. Richter claimed that Gaffney had 4 drops TODAY. That's BS. He didn't. I have no problem getting on a guy for drops, but lets not over-exaggerate and act like the receivers were the ONLY reason the offense sputtered today.

Please show me where I said that the receivers were PERFECT? I said that the receivers DID drop some passes, but it wasn't nearly as bad as Richter would like us to believe. Brady was as much at fault today as the receivers were. That was MY point.

I actually said that Gaffney had three balls that hit him in the hands that he didn't catch, not four. I could be wrong, but I'm fairly certain he had one on the sideline that would have converted a third down early on, and then two on the same drive coming out of the slot. It looked like concentration lapses on all three. My greater point, though, again, is that the receivers were awful and were by far the biggest culprit in the ineffectiveness of the passing game today. If they simply catch all the balls they should have caught, Brady's stat line probably looks something like 3/1 for 250 yards.

Why do you guys always shoot down those who want records? Why not have the records AND SB. It's not one or the other. We can go out there, blowout teams, set records, AND win the SB. None of us here are saying we'd rather set records than win the SB.

Fans want to see their players set records. I'm sure Brady and Moss would love to set records. Why is it so bad that we want them to break records and are upset when they don't have a good day? This isn't the type of team that can only win close games, we can blow people out, thus we are disappointed when Brady or Moss has a bad day.

If we played like **** but won, do you think BB would be satisfied? No. So why should we?
