This was never going to be a great season

If things do work out, it'll be cool to refer to this as the Mayo and Maye era.

Has a nice ring to it.

......see what I did there?

They do need a real OC. Matty P is better than OB or Van Pelt.
...latter now just makes me think of]

This terrifies and horrifies me. It’s not like BoB and he whose name we shall not speak were trash with us at anytime before. Yea there was some boring/uninspired football being played at times: McD’s plays being predicted: jetsweep, screen, bootleg, jetsweep….FattyP’s bend but don’t break, be interesting, nor fun to watch or surely play D (no idea if it was fun, just sounded good)…

Yea it may not have been as exciting as it could have yet yielded a ton of wins so I won’t complain….too much.

A large part of the stability Brady brought was accountability in the locker room. He learned from McGintest and others and became the sheriff in the locker room. There were others who stepped up and were sheriffs on their own right, like Bruschi and Hightower. The team sucks right now because there are no sheriffs in the locker room. A wild eyed menace of a LT would be a great place to find a leader.
Absolutely. The leadership was already in place. Don't forget before Willie, ty and brushci it was Bledsoe and Troy brown, Coates, guys like that who were leaders.

Furthermore brady was the Ultimate X factor total team player selfless leader. By having him the position for so long it made the GMs job alot easier to walk walk away from guys and not resign them.

Agreed. Brady had a much better situation when he took over the team. The talent was better and all the team leaders, like Matt Light, were committed to taking pressure off the QB. Maye will have to be the guy which will impact his leadership style. I hope he and the locker room do not fall into the trap where everyone thinks that Maye needs to do everything in order for the team to be successful.

The bottom line is that this team needs to get to the point where a number of key on field contributors set the tone in the locker room before they are ready for a deep run in the playoffs. Historically, the championship teams all had multiple leaders on both sides of the ball. During the lull years the number of leadership guys on the roster dropped and the results showed that the team was not as resilient on the field. This caused BB to focus on bringing in former captains which resulted in the second wave of championships. The defense has a few lead by example types, i.e. Barmore, Gonzo, White, Bentley that needs to find its voice and provide more vocal leadership. The offense only has the potential of Maye and maybe Stevenson.

Yes agree. The offense has ownenu, Andrews, Bourne, Henry, rham that are leaders. Peppers, Bentley, dugger, j. Jones.. I'd say are leaders on defense.. as I've put more thoughts on maye the only thing holding him back is the line play. The team knows Jacoby isn't the answer. Even when he's had time he's missed wide open guys. I believe mayo adores Jacoby leadership abilities and his toughness. However this is a results based business and if the production isn't there at the QB position eventually the season will be lost again if we fall to 1-6.. so at that point maye as well let maye play and get experience heading into the off season.

It was actually kinda excruciating in that sense for me for 20 years. Losses were heavy af and victories nearly always underappreciated outside of the playoffs.

I'd take on all that pressure and sleeplessness right back again in a heartbeat though.
I have had exactly the same thought. I'm enjoying watching the team work through the rebuild, setbacks and all. I've been through it before, as have fans of most teams.

I just don't know how you will motivate the rest of the team when you know the offense can no jack**** with the porous offensive line and a QB who cannot throw a pass beyond 10 yards .

If I know my teammate is pulling me down and the entire ship is sinking, I will probably give in my 80% unless it's a contract year and try to preserve my body for the next season

Winning is the elixir that lifts the entire team and losing is just like a twister sucking everyone inside the vortex.

I don't have a problem with losing, but lose respectably where everyone feels there is a chance. Something like the Seahawks game.

There has to be a method to the madness with the circus operation with offensive line. Fix peoples position for 4-5 games and build continuity with that. The experiment of cross training should be stopped i.w. tackles to guards and vice versa. Our talent is mediocre, so better get them to do the thing that they have practicing over the major part of career instead of making them learn new positions and techniques.

If LT is weak , game plan by bolstering right side and doing zone runs. Use an TE to just slightly slow down the edge rusher from left while using LT to push few of the interior defensive personnel there y opening some holes in middle for the runner. Allow edge to bull rush freely and then do screens to TE or rham . Confuse them . Maybe allow brissett to sit back deep so that the free edge rushers take 2 seconds to come in and in that time our offensive line men are opening lanes in front for screen or short shovel passes or for a quick slant route to Thornton or baker. I know what I am saying might not even be feasible, the point is try to do something different rather than the same stuff which is not working.

Definitely the Polian rules are the start of the new era.

We could go back to the start of the forward pass or when they added roughing the passer lol.
What bothered me most about Polian was when he sabotaged Indy's chances at a perfect season in 2009 and then publicly used the Pats' failure in 2007 as his excuse, even though the real reason he did it was to get Pittsburgh out of the playoffs by losing to the Jets at the end of the season. I can still see the stunned faces of Jeff Saturday and PEDton as they were told they were sitting.

That's when I started to change my mind about that banner. We had the guts to go for it and take on every single team's very best. Why not brag about that?

he absolutely could bust.

I’m waiting till I see him more before concluding that he is or isn’t the guy,
We really need to see what Maye sees on the field. As good as some QBs are they still don't see the field well enough to succeed.

Most of us don't feel like bragging about that season because it ended horribly. I went into a club I belonged to a few weeks after that game and when I started to talk about it one dope at the end of the bar boldly stated "we don't talk about that game here." I politely told him that "we do now."

I still believe during that Cam Newton season, if we had good QB play we would have been a really good team. 7-9 with dirtball Cam is ridiculous
Bill's ego got in the way. He actually thought it was his coaching that got them where they were and not the top players he was throwing away for nothing. He should have learned his lesson but he seems like the stubborn type.

Nix in 2 games looks in over his head. As bad as I wanted Drake to play.. with the play of the line I'm ok with maye daye waiting. We got the best QB in the draft. Many teams wanted drake.. and we're willing to give up lots of capital to get him. Kevin Oconnell is one of best offensive minds in the game and want him, so didn't the giant's.
You were saying about Nix? He looked pretty darn good yesterday, on the road.

how did you learn about Bill’s ego. The 2020 team was identical to the 2019 squad with Brady that ran out of gas late in the season.

He ran out of so much gas he had 24 TDs and 8 INTs.. his car was so low on gas he almost didn't make it to TB for another Lombardi..

Why do you cherry pick so much? Or do you just generally lack reading comprehension skills?

I didn’t say TB played bad, I said the entire team did. Especially the defense collapsed on the back half of both 2019 and 2020. They went from The Boogeyman to Boogers.

I didn't I just felt the need to mention that. Not trying to make this about bill/ TB12 debate again. Yes your right first 8 games In 19 they were historical on defense. The last half not so much. As bad as cam was in 2020.. they still went 7-9.. I probably take cam over Brissett right now.

That season would have been a continuation of the dynasty with a good qb. We don’t win the sb but win like 11 games

Bailey Zappe had a good game once. BFD

Nix isn't an NFL QB.
