Pats currently have ONE PS space available and will have 1 Roster Space once Bentley is formally placed on Season Ending IR.

DE KJ Henry was released by the Panthers. He looked good in Pre-season.

CB Ameer Speed was released by the Colts. He looked good last year for the Pats before they tried to sneak him onto the PS with the Colts claiming him.

TE? Jordan Matthews - Matthew was signed a few years back by the Pats in TC but didn't last long. With his having changed to being a TE, could a reunion be in order?

TE Peyton Hendershot - Pre-season standout who was traded by the Cowboys to the Chiefs. Supposedly going to re-sign with the Chiefs PS.

One thing worth remembering is that the Pats will need potentially 4 spots on their 53 man roster in two weeks to activate Strange, Bourne, Takitaki and Mapu. Maybe some of them aren’t ready right away, but some will be. So need to keep in mind that they’ll need to be cutting currently rostered players very soon to add those guys to the squad.

As a clarification, the only time that teams have to distinguish between season-ending IR and non-season-ending IR is cutdown day. In season, the designation to return happens when they open the practice window, not when they go on IR. [Note I do not say this with the expectation that they will activate him, merely that they don't need to make that decision now.]

Personally I'd always overload the ps with interior offensive linemen. Ps guys are all longshots but guards and centers seem to be the ps lottery tickets with the best odds.

Isn't Chuckwuma NOkrafor off the Team??

You need to sign up for Cap's nickname bootcamp.

CT - It's a torn pec. He's not coming back from it this year. That's all I meant by it.

Only need spots if people are ready to come off. In the mean time, you don't play short.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens with Strange most of all.

correct me if I am wrong, but the 4 mentioned are eligible to come off IR after missing 4 games, and then they also have 21 days to practice before they are put on the active roster?

Yes my understanding is that they can stay on the list as long as needed (I think there is a cap on this but I am not sure exactly how long), then once you activate them, you have 3 weeks allowed where they can practice but don't actually need to be on the roster. However if you want to actually use them, they need to come onto the roster.

Yeah, they will absolutely fill the slots. I am just saying that the players signed may not necessarily be rostered long, since other guys are waiting in the wings to be activated. Remains to be seen, though.

The cap is on activating players from IR. It was unlimited at the height of COVID. Now it's eight in the regular season (and two more in the playoffs).

I thought there was a maximum # of weeks someone could stay on PUP too before they eventually reverted to IR.

Not sure we really want the guy cut by what is an absolutely trash team.

This site says a 5 week window after week 4 to begin practice, and they have 3 weeks once they begin practice with an exempt roster spot before they either have to be activated or put on IR. https://www.profootballnetwork.com/...explaining-the-meaning-difference-between-ir/

So if not practicing after week 9, must stay on PUP for the rest of the year.
I wonder if a player could stay on PUP until week 9, flip to IR, then be activated from IR late in the year.

If I understand it correctly, no.

Yeah, I was thinking in terms of numbers, not time. My apologies.
