Patriots Player Departure Patriots release JU JU

We return Douglas and Bourne (short season in 2023) and Thornton
=========
Is it really a HUGE REACH to believe that Osborne, Polk and Baker will be better than Juju and Parker?
For effect, substitute Harry & Thornton for Polk & Baker and reminisce about NE's other newly upgraded WR corps.
Note: Thornton caught 11 passes last year, Harry caught 12 passes in his final NE season.
Parker & JuJu, as frustrating and awful as they were, combined for 61 receptions last season, targeted by arguably the worst 1-2 QB in the NFL.

Now tell me why I'm supposed to believe NE's two new neophytes will even reach Boney T levels of inadequacy, especially with one of the worst QB rooms in the league and an overmatched OL.

Regarding Osborne: I put him in the same camp as Brissett; extremely fortunate Wolf was as generous as he was with his basket of Kraft Bucks, because no other team wanted either, even at such low prices.

So the Patriots let Jakobi Meyers go over $1 million difference of opinion. Then the cheapskate Patriots went for JuJu and figured that they saved a few million; now they have to waste almost ten million in dead money and they certainly could have used Jakobi last season. Penny wise and pound foolish. As far as why the Patriots let Meyers go, was it because of BB or the Krafts? Considering the other cheapskate moves by the Patriots recently, I have to wonder.

The results of the Patriots cheapskate moves will be on full display this season as it was last season. Baloney sandwiches to management.

To be clear, you have a starting 3 of Osborne Thornton and Douglas in the slot.

I'm actually fine with that, with no need for a 6th since we want to give Polk and Baker some reps rather than giving reps to a 6th WR.
Reagor plays special teams, it should earn him a spot but he needs to play better than he did against Carolina. That wasn't his best effort of this preseason.

The Pats won a lot without a true number one. Teams could not stop Jules, Amendola and the third down backs even without Gronk. Same with the first part of the dynasty. The only concern is that style of play depends on consistently getting first downs and steady scoring. This offense needs to be much more efficient for that to work.
We'll see if the offensive line improves as some of the younger guys move into contributing roles.

If the coaches don't see how bad Vederian Lowe sucks or the need to upgrade from Okorafor there is no improving. In order to move the chains they'll have to be able to run the ball and pass block those edge rushers.

So the Patriots let Jakobi Meyers go over $1 million difference. Then the cheapskate Patriots went for JuJu and figure they saved a few million; now they have to waste almost nine million in dead money are could have used Jakobi last season. Penny wise and pound foolish. As far as why the Patriots let Meyers go, was it because of BB or the Krafts? Considering the other cheapskate move by the Patriots recently, I have to wonder.
Multiple reporters say a power struggle happened the last three years. Based on the evidence we've seen I agree.

I can sure as sht say it wasn't BB's idea to start running a west coast offense or use zone blocking in 2022. Or the same exact system they happen to be running now that he's gone. Jules was laughing about a conversation on his podcast from years back when BB was making fun of the west coast offense, just slamming it as easy to defend.

Collaboration was everywhere... the owner has an opinion and signs the checks.

Jonathan took his team back. Took back personnel, hired coaches, meddled.

I don't begrudge the guy, it's his team, he should build it in his image. We'll see if he's a Kraft or a Kiam.

I said homegrown talent, not homegrown WR talent. The Pats under BB rarely drafted WR’s and when they did it was predominately towards the end of the draft.

Stooges is a good description.

One of their very best sketches right there, without a doubt.

One little difference between those two situations…

It was Bill - he was losing confidence of the team (due to objectively bad staffing hires & FA moves) and he became so spiteful about the internal questions, that he would rather sabotage his own team to prove a point. Sending away D. Harris & Meyers - Mac's biggest supporters (and best friends on the team).
These detrimental acts of hubris is what got him fired - and it was the right decision to move on.
But that doesn't mean hiring Mayo was the best HC hire. We'll see.

I am not so sure. There has been one dodgy personnel move, or lack of move, after another since BB left making me think that the problem lies elsewhere. The Patriots were pathetic in the FA period; we will see about their draft picks. I suspect that there was some meddling in the draft also....they whiffed on a LT but we do not know if they whiffed on a WR yet; I still retain hope for Baker and Polk.

I get the uneasy feeling that now it is the Patriots playing checkers while the rest of the league is playing chess. It used to be the other way around...unfortunately once a team gets in the basement, it is hard to get out because no one wants to play for the Patriots anymore. They will have to claw their way out of the basement with draft picks.

Of course you need a good QB to run the system. Rumor has it that the team just drafted the next guy. All bets are off if there is no QB. The multiple options with a chain mover worked before Brady became TB12. Let it go, the team needs to find a way without him.

Also says he thinks Juju has some good ball left in him.

Say what you want about how green Mayo is as a coach but it’s refreshing to hear this candor from the HC.

He just screwed Juju out of playing this year. No one's going to hire him if he has health problems.

Maybe but was it really a secret though? He is caveat emptor anyway…

I suspect that Reagor has gotten plenty of chance to show his stuff. He has earned his place on the practice Squad.

They let Jakobi go because of that stupid backwards pass in the Raiders game. That was as dumb of a play as you can make. There was no reason for that at all. That was a player who ignored all of his coaching and blew the game. Remember, they were tied when he did that. He lost that game with that play.

Possibly, on that mic'd up tweet someone posted a few days back with Brissett, coach Van Pelt said Reagor was having a great camp.

We'll have to see how it all plays out from here on out, this week's joint practices will really separate the men from the boys.
