Aiyuk officially requests trade

It's crazy how Tua's lack of talent has been disguised so well.
Would be nice to beat him sometime. Maybe the new regime will have better luck than the old one did.

if the season was 15 games, last seasons mvp is Tua

It wouldn't shock me if they get swept again this season because their Dolphins skill players overmatch the lack of talent the Pats have on D.

Aiyuk has reported. He's staying for 2024. It would be better to go after him in FA in 2025 anyways.

Higher tier receivers don't hit free agency in their mid 20's unless there is some off field baggage. If the 49ers don't work out a deal (or trade him this season) he will likely be franchised and traded next year.

Barring injury, he will get a record setting deal. That doesn't mean I'm not interested, but it is a factor to remember.

At this point it wouldn't surprise me if they dealt Deebo and paid Aiyuk. Deebo is a couple years older and has been dinged up the last couple years limiting his production. Per Spotrac, trading him now would drastically reduce the cap hit from $28.6 mill down to $6.6 mill saving them almost $22 million.

The only way they can keep the tag is if they dealt Samuel/Trent Williams retires as they will have a lot of money devoted to the offense with Purdy coming up for an extension. They already have key defenders hitting FA in 2025 as well. If Aiyuk has a better season then he did in 2023 and Deebo/Williams stay, then he could argue the 49ers can't negotiate in good faith on a long term extension and force the NFL to remove it ala Nick Foles. They already didn't want to pay him close to $30M this season, so why would they pay him more in 2025?

This would be a massive overpay. St. Brown wrecked the market. Nobody should be above Jefferson or Tyrek Hill.

If Deebo misses time, I think he ends up being dealt and then they can sign Aiyuk long term.

I agree with a lot of this. Though bottom line is SF is looking at some massive contracts coming up and already have some on the books. I know you've mentioned "if Aiyuk has another great year" but that scenario could play out with several other players like Ward and Greenlaw and obviously Purdy. Ward had a great year last season. Another one on that level and he's looking at a big pay day. Greenlaw is a top 5-7 LB in the league. Not sure Caff's situation off the top of my head but he's the engine or gas of that team.
Big fan of Greenlaw. He gets overshadowed by Warner, but he's a stud. He's the type of guy this defense desperately needs.
Yac wasn't great but he's a consistent 350 guy in that area. Not great but top 20 which is good enough. His strengths are plentiful though. He'd be a great guy for the youngins to look up to. Aiyuk was a project coming out. Had a very good rookie year but the guy really needed to learn the position and he has. You want to reward guys like that. Blocks his butt off. Versatile. Would give us 3 interchangeable guys and a clear-cut iso/3x1 on the outside. Almost 40% of his rec went for 20+! He's been as efficient and effective as almost anyone in the game the last two years.
Forgot to mention he had the 3rd most explosive plays in the NFL last season with 31. "Possession" WR's don't do that.

1) IIRC correctly, none of those guys were UFAs, which is what Aiyuk will be if he is not franchised.
2) The numbers on average go up every year.

St Brown is well on his way to being Great another young exploside WR not even in his prime.

Q: what's the difference between failed, weak armed, Bama grad Mac and weak armed, Bama grad almost MVP Tua?
A: coaching and weapons.
Turnovers, in year three Tua threw a career low interceptions. Mac imploded in years two and three. Tua never imploded, he was just better, it didn’t matter who his receivers were.

Yep. And he was benched for Fitzpatrick many times. Funny that he's not benched anymore. Also nobody is calling him a bust like they were before Hill arrived.

I disagree. He's a physical freak, but not a good tight end. He was cut by the Falcons after having a career year last year. He's a decent backup, but thats it.
He was cut by the Falcons because he had a massive cap charge and because his offensive coordinator moved onto Pittsburgh… not performance.

He’s a very good HBack, he’d look good in the system the Pats are running now rather than the one Josh was running here when McD clearly didn’t want to utilize another TE and wanted a traditional FB instead.

Tua got injured, not “benched for Fitzpatrick.” He got benched once as a rookie in the 4th quarter of a game but retained the starting job.

The rest of us don’t live in this fictional world of yours.

Benched for performance. Try again.

Funny what a WR1 or two can do for a guy like Tua. I'd be happy to have even one.

I literally said he was benched once as a rookie in the 4th quarter of a game above chuckles. Look up.

Has he been benched for performance agains since he had Tyreek/Waddle? No? My point stands. WR1's matter. Weapons matter. This is 2024. Get with the times. BB's way fell on its ass since Brady left. That's not how you build a team anymore.

Phins go 9-8 and trade the world for Tyreek, they immediately go 9-8… superweapons make a difference.

Sounds legit…
