RUMOR: Patriots and Judon not close on deal

Not surprising at all….
nope.

We don't know what he is willing to play for.

Perhaps he will be fine with guaranteeing incentives before he becomes a free agent next off-season.

There's only three ways it can go. The come to an agreement on an extension. He plays for a revision on his current deal which bumps him up to his previous salary.... or they trade him outright.

I suspect all this posturing is nothing more than negotiating, and we'll eventually see a deal get done.

If they trade him for very little I get it, he's getting older. If they also cut or trade Godchaux they're all but giving up on this season. Jennings can replace some of what Judon provided, there's nobody available to play DT... lose both of them and the defense will take a hit.

Judon will be 33 next season.

This notion that the Pats have not paid him well is false. Via Overthecap, Judon has averaged 15.5 million per year with NE over the last 3 years and 4.1 million per year with Baltimore over 5 years. Matt Judon Contract Details, Salary Cap Charges, Bonus Money, and Contract History | Over The Cap

Currently Judon has the highest cap hit on the NE 2024 roster @ 15.675 million.

Well looks like I’m back on my trade him stance.

Judon will be 32 this season. They shouldn't extend him too far beyond next season, if they do it at all.

Did somebody say the Pats didn't pay him well? This isn't about what came before anyhow, it's about this season and beyond.

His cap hit is a result of his last contract, if they extend him they can shrink his cap hit if they want to. He's scheduled to make half his annual salary on his current deal, he won't play for that and shouldn't. If the Pats won't pay him, some contender will.

I really don’t want him to go but if he does he needs to go to the NFC. A real kick in the balls would be for him to go to the chiefs and help them get another ring and another. Aside from the precedent it may set (hold in and we will cave to your whims) he really is underpaid imo. Prefer to keep him but not breaking the bank to do so. It’s not like we don’t have the moolah.

As we near camp.. I'll say this is getting very interesting to say the least. The other day judon said they weren't far apart.. just give him another bump and see what happens next off season..

I'm more Interested in my guy peppers.. top 5 safety and he deserves a new deal.

As he's been a great player and leader. I think he wants a new deal becuase he sees the organization is handing out contracts.. so players feel like it's thier time to strike. Coming off a major Injury 32 next season typically under Bill that's a reason to take a pay cut or get cut!

I think you’re right. Question is do Mayo and Wolf want to continue the mantra of a year early rather than a year late when it comes to deals? Maybe they can selectively continue it….the first real contract dispute with drama will be interesting though.

Yes. And I'm glad this is happening actually it's happening with 2 players. I know that judon and Mayo have a great relationship. So I have to think Mayo wants his all pro level OL playing this season. Judon also has said he wants to be here especially when they get back on top.

I've also joked that it's also not like judon has to feed his family going to a soup kitchen.. lol.. I hope something gets done by camp..

His 7 million 2023 salary was guaranteed after playing 4 games. BB borrowed money from 2024 to sweeten Judons contract last off season and here we are again.

What does Detroit have to trade?

Detroit Lions

This would be the type of trade that sends shockwaves throughout the NFL and signals that the Lions are not messing around. Detroit led the league in pressure rate last season, but there's an argument to be made that they could be even better with Judon opposite of Aidan Hutchinson. The Lions are coming off their most successful season in decades and are now trying to take another leap in 2024, so an all-in trade for Judon would make sense and could greatly help their newly improved secondary bounce back after a rough season in 2023. This landing spot would also put Judon in a situation where he could seriously contend for a Super Bowl. The Lions do have $34.5 million in cap space, so an extension may not be out of the question here either.

As he's been a great player and leader.

Leaders dont go to social media to complain about a new contract. Loose cannons do.

The Pats have spent on the surface but NFL contracts are bogus and not guaranteed.

33 next season and BB would have Judon show his stuff on the field first and then bump his money up during this 2024 season.

No media BS all accomplished professionally being closed doors.

If he holds out when camp starts, he won’t come back. He’ll end up getting traded.

Here we go with the BB would've...please don't open that door becuase I could list a whole bunch of things BB would've done!

1st off the organization is in the top half of the league in cash spent.

Judon is likely thier best player, guys everything you want in a leader. So by your logic then every good player who wants a new contract should not post anything in the media. this isn't the old man era of the NFL players have a voice and a platform just like coaches do!

Vince wasn't happy about his contract he had no issues saying to reporters, randy, Deon, ty law, Willie they all let it be known they wanted deals done.

Things would have to be really ugly for wolf ro trade him.

Now of course if the lion offered something ro sweeten the pot then maybe he listens..

I would let him play out his current contract. He is on the wrong side of 30 and his play can decline quickly. IMO, he would have more value if we were a playoff contender. I also wouldn't hesitate to trade him for a fair value player/pick.
