Liking what I saw and heard on his miked up video
Seems upbeat, very knowledgeable, encouraging and positive.
I think this guy knows what he is doing.
His personality could be perfect for a very young offense coming off a terrible year.

Possible perfect antidote to sour ****es BoB and Matt Patricia.

He also doesn't have a ton of experience calling in plays in-game. He's a ground and pound guy which...okay. But there's Rham and ??? on the team.

I'm willing to give him a shot. I mean no one has any idea if how this coaching staff is going to do. Not really.

Is calling plays in game really rocket science? Does it really require Albert Einstein?
The guy was OC for the browns. I am sure he can call in game plays better than Matt Patricia

Play calling is an art when done right.

It's not coincidence the best coordinator/coaches bring great offense wherever they go or with all different players.

Reid, Shanahan, McVay, Payton... these guys make their players better and know how to call a game. A lot of coordinators just run plays...

Van Pelt might be a great coordinator, we'll see when they start playing actual football. I loved his initial statements about creating a power run game, that's important.

He'll have a better QB than they've had the past few years in Jacoby, he'll have a potentially great QB behind Brissett. That alone will be a big boost for the offense, Mac was terrible.

Having all the coaches running the same system will also be a boost. Last season it was reported the line coach Klemm was teaching west coast techniques to a team that didn't run that system, then he up and left midseason... just disappeared.

It wasn't just that O'Brien wasn't good, there was a power struggle upstairs between Jonathan, BB and all the coaches. There were a lot of injuries on the OL, WR and their QB play stunk... the collaboration failed. Let's see what it looks like this year with a fresh start and fresh coaches.

I know the corpse of Flacco was very productive under AVP. I love how bullish Drew Bledsoe is about AVP being a genius. Drew is positively psyched about AVP.

As I understand Cleveland made him the fall guy on why Watson wasn't living up to the ridiculous investment they made in him.

I hope he crushes it with Maye's development. Sadly the more success he has the more likely some team will make him an offer he can't refuse to be their HC.

the team also has McAdoo on staff and he has been an OC/play caller before he was elevated to HC

His offenses have been mediocre since he’s been an OC starting in 2020. He also had way more talent over in Cleveland. He’s got his hands full in NE.

There are at least 3 links to the video he mentioned in the homepage news feed.

Looking for breadcrumbs of optimism here.
The pundits have the Pats as the worst team with the worst roster win the league.

AVP I am hoping will be one bright spot.
Albert Einstein was not available

Alfred Einstein could call plays.
Yeah, because his general theory of relatively demonstrated that massive bodies, like Vince Wilfork, bend space and cause objects to fall toward them. Most of the running plays he called were outside the tackles.

Yes. Establishing a cadence is probably really difficult. If it were easy, Bill would've never gotten it wrong.

However, I think AVP can muster it. But it ain't easy and I wouldn't be surprised if the start of the season is ugly.

The best thing about this year is you have an option (or 2) at QB to help execute that play calling.

I think the games, even if a lot of losses, will be far more entertaining to watch. It was downright terrible watching the Pats last year, I mean I legitimately did not look forward to wasting 4 hours of my Sunday to watch Mac / Zappe just be literal morons. If the product looks more competent next year, then that's the first step and I'd be very happy.

Play calling doesn't have as much meaning as it once did.. for example Brian Callahan in Tennessee didn't call plays, and in Philadelphia it wasn't known if sirani or Brian Johnson did... in KC beinemy didn't call plays... but I agree with you...I've been high on AVP the more I've learned about him.. so to complete your sentence there's rham and Gibson. I don't think enough people understand just how dynamic Gibson is as a player. 6'2 former WR, a phenomenal athlete.. makes guys miss in space, lines up out wide.. catches out the backfield... all you have to do is look at the game he had against our defense. AVPs going to have this guy in so many match up advantages.

McAdoo was fired as the NY Giants Head Coach in a shorter timeframe than Joe Judge. Being worse than Joe Judge is a remarkable accomplishment, and now we are to believe that McAdoo is somehow an amazing OC/play caller? WOW!

And the Browns would not let AVP call the plays. Maybe there was a reason for that? Mayo as a first time coach likes AVP's demeanor. I have no doubt that AVP is a "players coach". Does a bunch of "players coaches" win a lot of games?

He's in the same category as Mike McCoy, Adam Gase, Joe Philbin (lol) and Josh McDaniels where the QB makes the OC better than they really are. Brian Billick is another coach who was a mediocre OC until they drafted Moss and Cunningham had a resurgence in 1998. He forgot how to run in offense in Baltimore, but he was lucky as hell to win a Super Bowl in 2000 with a weak AFC and the defense they had.

Rodgers got McAdoo and Philbin their jobs and both were exposed as frauds very quickly.

Agreed. What I do like Is Mayo's been very open with us the fans and media. I believe he mentioned that AVP has full autonomy on the offense. IMO what matters is Drake, if Drake turns out to be what we believe he is then good QB, with a Good OC, as we've bared witness for 19 seasons typically permeates to success.
