I’m 50 years old so I don’t figure I have a good handle on this situation. Am I to understand that he needed to step away from his paying job because of his fatigue winning too much during his free ride college stint ?

I guess he could be battling issues, but it seems like going off work an entire year is significant.

After winning two collegiate championships at Georgia, Bennett needed to take a year off because of burnout. Maybe if Mac had taken a year off after winning the national championship at 'Bama, he would have been more successful with the Pats, though I doubt that Belichick would have been as sympathetic as McVay.

One of the things that has been severely lacking at the Collegiate and Pro levels is an understanding of Mental health. We don't know what else Bennett had to deal with during that time. So, the Rams giving Bennett that time to get better is a good thing. It shows they recognize that there is more to HEALTH than just the physical.

maybe if mac had an offensive staff that had coach offense before in year two he wouldn't have turned intoa dumpster fire.

Why would you think that? Belichick went out of his way to try and help Josh Gordon, who had mental health issues. We also know that Belichick has gone out of his way to protect players in regards to their health issues. I mean, even with Antonio Brown, they put a support network in place for the guy so he wouldn't self-destruct, but he did it anyways by refusing to follow the simple rules that he'd agreed to.

Had AB NOT messaged that Woman, there is no telling what he could have accomplished with Brady here.

Josh leaving really screwed MAC over, honestly. Had Josh not left, there is no telling how Mac would have turned out.
So let me understand, it was Josh’s fault?

Mac was a little ***** who never put in the work to get better. I can’t think of one area he improved on after his rookie season. Once defensive coordinators had tape on him, and set game plans to take away his go to plays he was toast.

Massive thanks to all who have managed to change a thread that could have been worthwhile in discussing such an important topic, into a ***** fest about people that aren't part of the organisation any more.

Really good job. *slow clap*.

After a loss BB took Mac by the hand and gently led him off the field when Jones looked like he was about to cry.

Mac slapped opposing players in the junk, he slid with his cleats up to hurt opponents, he blamed his receivers after he airmailed balls out of bounds or into the hands of opponents, and when things got tough for him he climbed up the back stairs and cried to daddy Kraft that Bill was being mean to him.

If Mac was Joe Burrow or Justin Herbert, BB is still the coach. Mac is softer than Charmin... give us a break.

I know the rumor was issues with alcohol with Bennett. Maybe the "break" was to address that or maybe it really was a break but I agree with some of the other posters who said most coaches wouldn't be as sympathetic to his situation as Mcvay was.

This. Plus he never had the arm. (or, as the kids like to say, the 'arm talent').

He has a lot to work on and very limited athletically, but I think he can re-emerge on a team with good coaching and solid skill players.

I remember calling his arm weak and getting scolded on here. Then I created the "Is Mac dirty?" thread and there was lots of disagreement. Funny how things have changed...

College must have been pure hell.

Starting QB at UGA and a winner. The parties and girls chasing him must have been downright depressing. Heck, the football team controls the campus at many colleges. The weight of that responsibility was just too much.

Hopefully Drake Maye takes this season off. His pro career can wait We all understand.
