The harrowing tale of Patriots player Calvin Anderson’s near-fatal bout with malaria

Yeah, this guy sounds like an amazing human being, and someone to root for. Just wow.
I was a "dead man walking" this fall without knowing it, and a firm nudge to get checked out medically saved my life. "Grateful" is an entirely inadequate word in these cases.
How amazing would it be for him to solve the LT problem? Odds are small, but what the hell. Go Calvin!

Hell, even if he's an effective swing tackle, that would be huge. But most importantly, I'm glad he's still alive and even has a chance to keep playing. 105 degree fevers are no joke.

I am glad that he is healthy now. I am also glad to know what happened. No need to be concerned about a relapse or that it was caused by unhealthy living. Just having the players from last year on the field and playing is an improvement over 2023.

Wow that explains a lot.

Missing the year could be a tough set back to overcome but knowing what he went through and where he stood prior to all this gives good reason to be more optimistic he can contribute.

Damn, that is rough. Glad to finally know what happened, certainly not what I expected. Obviously, glad he made it through. This does raise my opinion of his potential outlook for 2024.

I can't imagine why malaria wouldn't be what you expected lol

I was pulling for this guy before and am especially pulling for him now. I think he has as good a shot as anyone to win that LT spot.

Malaria AND later he had heart irregularities

There was something about Anderson that sounded good when we first signed him. At 6'5 307, he's an athletic OT who can play either left or right. His snap count rose drastically from 2021 to 2022 - was Denver's primary LT in 2022 and performed very well there. If he's all the way back strength wise, he could be the presumptive starter, with Okorafor as the experienced swing tackle and 6th OL, and Wallace next up. That's a lot better than last year.

Yup, ideally both Okorafor and Anderson show well and we have them as the starting LT/top swing tackle (whoever wins the job). That way Wallace can focus on being the primary backup right tackle when he's ready, and if he has a switch to LT in his future he can do that once he's more acclimated to the NFL in general.

Very rare in the US. Does the article mention any offseason traveling prior to getting sick?
