BoneyT and Calvin Anderson. If they break out this season after their struggles, we might just make the playoffs. The missing deep threat burner and the adequate nfl LT.

The chances of this happening…?

But there are other scenarios.

For me there are three keys. One is that one of the top 3 candidates plays well at LT AND the rest of OL plays well.

The second key is that Brissette has an excellent year at QB, or that Maye does when he starts playing.

The third is that we have solid coaching.

IMO, our 5 top WR's are good enough to get us to the playoffs if the three keys are there. If the team is looking good enough in the early going, we could still trade for our #1 WR.

People have been talking about Thornton.
Wondering who gets cut first......

Ju-ju will be moved as soon as we get someone to pay for part of his 2024 salary. Otherwise, he will simply be cut.
======
Thornton is another story entirely. Bourne is likely to start on the PUP list. Thornton would be kept through camp. If he has an OK camp, he could be on the 53 until Bourne comes back, and/or he could be traded for a 6th round pick. Another team might take a chance on Thornton. The commitment would be small. He has a very low contract and he would be available for cheap.

Even with my rose tinted glasses on, I'd back Javon Baker and Caedan Wallace to fill those needs instead. Calvin Anderson is a JAG and Thornton doesnt belong on an NFL roster.

The rookie receivers might not be ready from day 1 (if ever),

I think if Thornton can stay healthy, he has a chance to be a piece.

A. Jennings was a bust until his third year.

So, you think that we are going to keep 6 WR's. OK.

I would note that to play Thornton would means that TWO of the following will be inactive in any game that Thornton plays: Osborne, Polk, Baker, Bourne and Douglas. [in addition to ju-ju being gone]

I just don't see this happening.

Well Anderson has a sort of condition I believe that he needs to manage.? On TT he clearly has the speed, but his size he always hurt. If he can't put it together this season I think the team trades him.

If it were the old patriots offense I'd say yes on the WRs.. however we aren't running the old, NAVY inspired offense anymore. The AVPs offense is zone sceme, runs, passes. What the 49ers do basically. It's very WR centric and TE centric.. so I'd say the rookies have a great shot of coming in Making impacts from day 1...

He could definitely emerge in his 3rd season. His first year was the Patricia experiment, where he was hurt in preseason. Last year was just an overall sh*tshow for the offense.

I am still holding out some hope that Thornton's problems thus far had a lot to do with poor coaching and with hopefully better coaching he can turn his career around. If he can and lives up to the potential we saw in training camp his rookie season, he is the perfect WR for Maye.

That wasn't quite what I was saying.

I'm just not ready to write Thornton off yet.

As for inactives for a game, it's way too early to think that way.

WR has historically been the most difficult position to adjust from college to pro.

And we're talking two WR's who weren't top 10.

It's common in the league for a receiver to do so.

His career doesn't look great right now, but it can be salvaged.
