We've Drafted 8 OL's In the Past 3 Drafts

The team who coaches OL's without OL coaches has known that the OL has needed a rebuild. I expect we will need two more next draft, and 2 more in 2026.

incumbents: Onwenu, Andrews
2022: Strange, Hines, Steuber
2023: Andrews, Sow, Mafi
2024: Wallace, Robinson

We also brought in Okorafor, Jordan and Leverett, as well as Anderson last year.

The development of the 2024 OL should be fun to watch as it develops in mini-camp, training camo, preseason and through the first half of the season.

For me, we shouldn't mess with the OT's. We have Onwenu and hope that a couple of the others will step up.

We have serious issues with OG. Is Sow really our best our best OG no matter which side he plays? I suspect that Robinson may be almost as good at RG. We have brought in guards Leverett, Jordan and Robinson. Wallace can also backup at OG.

1) Long term plan of 2025 R1 at LT.
2) Move Wallace back to the position he has more experience at, RT.
3) Slide Onwenu over to RG.

Strange is signed through 2025, so the Pats have some time to make a decision on him.
Sow is signed through 2026, which makes Strange potential trade bait at some point.

I agree that LT is the unanswered question for the rebuild. Even if they work out a 2024 patch, Anderson and Okorafor will be free agents after the season.

I believe we would all be more excited if the Patriots had moved up for a proven LT in the draft.

Not saying that Wallace won't be a good player for us but he played RT at the college level... but mainly because they had Fashanu.

So can he make the flip to LT? Hard to say. He's pretty athletic and has the length but maybe he will be better at RT in the long run.

In the mean time I think the Patriots are going to try to 'coach up' these OL and see if they can find an LT out of what they have picked up so far.

As far as talent, I think they did get some good values at where they picked for the most part. But it does feel like the Patriots didn't handle the 'runs' on talent and react quickly enough. Like they could have moved up for Fisher, Paul or Kingsley in the 3rd but didn't etc.

No draft is perfect, let's see how these guys work out.

We don't have a legendary OL coach like Dante anymore to 'just make things work'.

But let's see what Scott Peters can do with this group. Training camp is going to be really interesting this year.

It will be a developmental year. Not just for the QB riding the bench while Brissett starts but also for the young linemen, and also for the newly drafted WRs. They will have a good sense of where they are at after the year. If they feel they’ve found a solid left tackle then they’re good, if not they can pursue one next year. Same goes for their WRs.

Yeah, he said that during the draft also. It makes sense, let Maye and Milton compete. If they exceed expectations then get them out there. But I think either guy would really need to be killing it to become the starter for week 1.

It is good to hear though. Forcibly sitting the guy no matter how good he looked wouldn’t necessarily be good for the culture.

Strange was taken in the end of the 1st round. So he is in his 3rd year, and has 2 more years left after that. Through 2026.

Wallace is older than Fashanu and Wallace was at the RT position before Fashanu even became a LT for them. He played a whole 2 years at RT when Fashanu was NOT the LT.

This is why the argument about Fashanu manning the LT position instead of Wallace is a bit of canard.

A team that has serious issues at G is the 49ers. For the last few years going back to Jimmy G, their interior line routinely gets pushed back in pass protection where the QB has to alter his throw to get the ball out. This year's playoffs put it on full display with it rearing it's ugly head in the Super Bowl. Chris Jones single handedly prevented a TD pass getting in Purdy's face.

The Pats interior isn't that bad. It's the T's that are the big question mark and weakness.

I see, didn’t know mayo said that. Guess we’ll see. When i think about it, it really can’t get much worse than burrow and Lawrence’s rookie years, then both won playoff games year 2. Got to be able to handle adversity, but at the same time you want the situation to improve for him within a year. Also if maye needs as much work as we believe its hard to see him beating out a vet this early.
