Drake Maye would be the IDEAL pick for the Patriots at #3

I think some team picking ahead of us could view Daniels as being better for them in terms of the offense they want to run (or whatever other reasons). That would place Maye there at #3 for us. Maye has the size, arm, and mobility to play in pretty much any system. It's just a matter of building up talent on the rest of the offense and solid coaching (which we should do anyway regardless of which QB we draft). He'll also only be 22 as a rookie and can sit a year or two, and still be young when he starts.
Kingsbury had a similar player as Daniels in Murray when he coached Arizona
He had Williams at USC.
He is good friends with NC coach Mac Brown. Who coached both Howell and Maye.
Combine and Pro Days will tell

Daniels and Murray/Williams aren't similar QBs to my guys, the last two try and play more like Mahomes.....scramble to extend the play and let the WRs make the plays. Good to Great off platform throwers

Daniels scrambles to run, rarely looking to throw while running....at least that I've seen.

The more I am looking into the prospects
I am liking Maye and McCarthy alot more than the others.
They have the velocity on throws needed in NE. I want an Offense that can attack all parts of the field. Also when the weather starts becoming a factor then a strong arm is a must.
McCarthy played within the system. Not many throws but make no mistakes
But he has the skills and wheels to become successful.
If Maye is available then take him. Otherwise Trade down a little and take McCarthy and gain some much needed picks
That is one of the bigger things to me, McCarthy not throwing as much meant he did not get into a good rythm as a passer and was able to still make strong tight window throws. I don't have the stats of 3rd and long conversion but I would bet the JJ has the highest percentage of the draftable QBs. Maye, JJ and JD all have mechanics issues that need fixed.

I obviously have no say in the decision so I have to trust the QB whisperers Wackadoo and AVP.

Which makes it more likely that Washington might prefer Daniels over Maye with the #2 overall pick.

McCarthy only threw for over 150 yards once in his last 6 games at Michigan. He didn’t look close to being ready for the NFL when I watched him. And physically he makes Mac Jones look like a beast.

I Wonder what Games they watched
I wouldn’t touch mccarthy in the top 20

McCarthy was money in 3/long. I'm going to post about him soon.

I think this is likely as well, but getting Maye is fine with me.

I do understand the stats.
Why did you stop at last 6 games.
3 of those games were playoff games. One a National Championship game.
That’s cherry picking. In the 9 games before that he threw for an average of 260 plus yards in a run heavy offense
I’m not selling out on Daniels yet. But I’m giving everyone a chance
Remember Daniels just recently flew up draft boards. He was a 2nd to 3rd round pick not long ago
Same as McCarthy.
Daniels and Tyquan look like poster child’s for Noom lol
I’m sure both can gain muscle and weight with NFL programs
As I said earlier my eyes are wide open, again remember Daniels was no where the top of draft until he won the Heisman
My guess is they both are probably one of the best 15 or so prospects. Being QB’s they rise up draft boards

We have two months until the draft and will be filtering through lots of info and misinformation.

Hopefully AVP and McAdoo are up to the task. It seems they were hired with QB selection and development in mind.

I saw his size listed elsewhere as 6-3 and 180.

Remember Brady sat for a year and built himself up.

Isn’t Brady 6-4? McCarthy is ballpark.

If McCarthy surges up the charts that helps the Pars whether we draft him or someone else,

Or get teams competing for our pick.
6ft 3 210 reportedly for JJ

That is something that I have been wondering about
How are the top QB’s on 3rd down and red zone
Also against top defenses

McCarthy made some big throws against Alabama when needed

Agree completely. I thought he looked overmatched against Alabama.
He threw for 17/27 for 221 yds….3TD and 0 INT
He threw that long 3rd down throw with game on the line
That’s far from overmatched
That was in a huge Playoff game. Under the biggest of lights
Daniels never even performed in any playoff games

I gave that stat because it was the one cited on the podcast I was listening to. But it didn’t surprise me because it was obvious from the Alabama game that he was a part of their offense, but not the driving force in it, Like I said in another post I think McCarthy should have stayed in school, he doesn’t look ready for the NFL to me.

Daniels was considered a 3rd round pick a year ago, he became the best player in college football this season. McCarthy would have been wise to add the same path. And Daniels is a dominant athlete, McCarthy isn’t.

If you want them to take McCarthy that’s fine, I don’t, I want one of the top 3 QB’s. McCarthy looks like Mac Jones 2.0 to me.

I like the back and forth. If we are open minded we both learn.
I like Daniels. His is a dominant athlete. But that does not always translate in the NFL. He thrived on the long ball. If you watch his tape he had a lot of time to throw being protected by a very good OLine. He had 2 dominant speed recievers. He will have 3-4 seconds to throw in the NFL. That means short to intermediate passes while using the middle of the field. 2 areas where Daniels is questionable. Every now and then you get extra blocking for the deep ball.
As far as best player in College football. That means nothing once you enter the Pro’s
So was Bryce Young, Murray, Mariota, Winston, Manziel, Griffin, Mayfield. Except fir Burrow and Lamar the rest were nit very good long term
As I just posted To BSG. I think it is just important if they were in a Pro Offense, 3rd down conversion rate, RedZone, how they played against top ranked defenses. If they played under the big lights and how they performed. How they played in cold and windy weather conditions etc
So I do listen to blogs. But they get a lot wrong. Doing some research myself makes me feel better about certain players
Believe me I barely know what I’m looking at. But it’s fun and educational. Putting what I had seen in tapes and then listen to blogs. I can confirm or deny what they are saying. Some things they are wrong about is obvious that they are way off base. Most of what they say you can see
Give McCarthy a chance, you seem to just be going on what the pundits are saying now. This could all look different in 2 months. It always does

Not sure I am that far yet, I’m just giving everyone their fare share
No where near the same QB as Mac. He has a bullet arm, great wheels, and does not seem to get flustered
