Interesting BB nuggets from Rapoport

My main issue is that Mac actually regressed under Bill and the fact that Bill didn't do everything he could to help Mac succeed. A lot of it stems from the fact he seemingly doesn't seem to respect (understand?) modern offensive football. Bill is still building an offense like he has Brady and in addition is poorly evaluating offensive talent.

I know people thought I was crazy this offseason when I said that I didn't view Juju as an upgrade over Jakobi but it's blatantly obvious Bill bungled that situation. In addition he hasn't swung for the fences to get Mac a true number one receiver which has been the formula for success for so many young quarterbacks.

Bill has also completely botched the guard and tackle situation the last few years. He created holes at guard by trading Mason, letting Thuney walk (after that ridiculous use of the franchise tag), and then decreasing the offer to Karras after badly miscalculating his market. Then to add insult to injury he drafts a guard in the first round and that guard isn't even all that good. Pair the mess at guard with the disaster at tackle last season swapping Wynn (in a contract year), and Brown (who just signed for RT money) and having them both become malcontents. This year what did at tackle is just flat out negligence. Reily Reiff, who immediately was moved to guard in the summer, and Calvin "Does he even exist?" Anderson were going to protect our already close to broken quaterback?

If Bill went out and swung a trade for AJ Brown (or drafted him in the first place), Tyreek Hill, or even Calvin Ridley or Brandin Cooks (or even signed Deandre Hopkins) and Mac still failed then I would give him more benefit of the doubt. Instead he let, what would be a solid number 2, in Jakobi Meyers walk and swapped him out with a broken down Juju Smith-Schuster and doubled down on an oft-injured subpar Devante Parker and called it a day. Brady could make JAGs like these guys work but Mac and whomever the next guy is will be lightyears away from being Tom Brady so it is time to change the philosophy and Bill just isn't going to do that in his 50th year as a coach.

The reason he was mocked higher was because it was expected that teams were going to draft WR’s early as it was rated the best WR classes in some time. While Harry was mocked a 1st rounder, most mocks had him going after Hollywood Brown, Metcalf, Samuel and AJ Brown.

The broadcasts were thrown off he was the 2nd WR taken before the others above.
Metcalf, I remember like yesterday, was mocked in the middle of the 2nd round. He had dropped a lot over the previous 2 months.

I think the way Bill looked at he was waiting for Mac to show something worthy of investing in and it never did the kid just kept getting worse.

And I think from there it gets really hard to hide all your other problems without a functional Q.

Bill was excellent at that through the years but obviously an easier task when you have Brady. I believe if he has a QB he can get back to doing his thing.

They're drafting 3 good players every year.

That's pretty good, no? Even with misses on Tyquan and Mac Jones.

2020: Onwenu, Uche, Jennings, Dugger
2021: Barmore, Rham
2022: Strange, Marcus Jones, Jack Jones, Zappe
2023: Gonzalez, White, Sow, Douglas, could be up to 8 when all is said and done.

Too bad for Teams who passed on him.

OTOH Kraft has been increasingly vocal in public over the past several years, putting the screws to Bill to do better and get back to the playoffs. Seems likely to me he could also be more assertive behind the scenes, on things like which QB he wants to be the face of the franchise. There have been quite a few suggestions that he was backing Mac, so there may be anecdotal evidence there, depending on what you consider evidence.

thing is, nobody outside of Bill and Bob and Jonathan will really know how they interact. It’s not something any of them will be blabbing about. So I think they probably talk fairly often about important decisions like draft strategy and significant roster moves. I’m not saying Kraft would be meddling in on the field moves like substitutions and play calls, but it’s his money and I’m sure he carefully watches how it’s being spent. So I expect the tone of their conversations in private has undoubtedly changed just as Kraft’s public comments have become increasingly more impatient.
He has been vocal because losing and he wants PR to be look Kraft hates losing.

He does not meddle.

Strange is meh, especially for a 1st rounder. Jack Jones isn't on the team. Uche has regressed. Jennings another meh. Gonzo might be good. He played in 4 games. Sow might be something but he need another season to develop.

Kraft is fairly hands off.

He only became more vocal and involved after Brady left and BB totally botched the QB position needing to sign Cam in the 11th hour because Stidham was not ready.
Kraft is not as hands off as he lets on at the QB position. My recollection is that Kraft forced the trade of Jimmy G, was involved when TB12 left and had some role in drafting/playing Mac. If Kraft really did force the Mac situation I could see him giving BB a shot at righting the ship with the next guy.

The upstateman is Built to Defend BB come what may even with the evidence.
Because you guys haven't been watching the huge struggle with coaches of 95% of the other franchises.

Do you even remember what 1995 was like before Belichick showed up here for the first time?

You are being VERY generous with that list.

Jack jones isn’t even on the team anymore and zappe just threw 3 picks in a half

Been a fan since 1984 I'm not exactly spring chicken.

Not drafting offensive weapons because you want your young QB to “show something first
Is an interesting way to build an offense…

Imagine the bucs “eh we don’t have a QB yet so why draft Mike Evan’s or Godwin at all”

The majority of teams it’s the opposite. They want to surround their young QB with most talent as possible.

People forget there was talk of Jaylen Hurts and Tua of their teams replacing them….until they got weapons

Should we handle a top 3 QB if we draft one this year that way? Hang them out to dry and hope they show something with minimal talent around them?

So on what are you basing your belief there will be a better coach here than Belichick?

Maybe Mayo who knows I want a young innovative buck over an old fart it's not that hard.

No way as HEAD COACH. No way - did you read the comments after Vegas dumped him?

Maybe, but Devante Adams said that the defenses knew what they were doing all the time. Note how the Pats
can't get separation" - maybe that system can't handle the speed of NFL defenses and DCs who have watched it for decades.
I don't play into any of this with any seriousness - Rap is looking for clicks with pure speculation, which is fine this time of the year.

Flores would be my choice over Josh. The Dolphins improved because of a couple of huge breaks (draft haul and Tyreek Hill) that did more to fix that team than anything else. Flores was building a solid team there. He "ratted out" a cheater and I have no problem with that.
My problems with Flores are:

1) He is probably the biggest clone of BB. He seems to be way too strict and probably not the best people management skills. He is much better than BB there.

2) He could not have handled Tua any worse. Again he strikes me like BB I can win with any QB thing

3) Dolphins got better after him right away

I would take him over McDaniels or O'Brien who I have 0 interest in though. Mayo is the only BB guy I want.

16 offensive picks over the last 3 years, only 11 defensive. FA/trades: 4 WRs with decent sized contracts, 3 TEs.

Criticize him for the people he brought in, but not the effort. They've expended a lot of draft resources and FA/trades on bringing people in.
