I’d still rather see a vet brought in to support Mac as the QB2 rather than a raw developmental project. But he does have intriguing tools and hopefully they can be refined.

I'm not sure that they think they're going to find a vet at this point better than Zappe.

It tells Mac Jones he better be looking over his shoulder! If he slips up, there's a guy waiting, and HUNGRY to take his spot!!

Look Mac had a serious SLUMP in year 2 so he never made the big leap that most starting QBs do to establish themselves in the NFL.

Year 3 is his last chance and he better approach this season like every day is his last day on earth. That's the only way a limited athlete like him can elevate. He has to be RELENTLESS. Otherwise, smell you later, there are guys with more talent and hunger just ITCHING to replace you, Mac!

He's not WRONG technically speaking. The Patriots ARE casting about for a QB.

But this is exactly what you need to do when you're not SURE that you've got 'your guy'. You need to keep casting that net till you find someone.

Who knows BOB might think that Corral is the better prospect and that's exactly why we claimed him. He might say - this guy will fit my system better, he can do more things that I need in a QB for my system than a Zappe or a Cunningham.

Gotta assume they're not going to find anyone else this season unless injuries and QB play go completely off the rails. So probably they'll be looking to the draft again next year.

Yes, when they cut Zappe I figured drafting a QB next year will be a high priority. This doesn’t change that, although it may change what they consider acceptable in a prospect.

Teams can protect up to four practice squad players each week from poaching from other teams trying to sign those players to their active roster

Um, I imagine that competition (if it materializes) will be next season. First Matt has to beat out Bailey.

Zappe won 2 games as a starter in the NFL, not College. Whether you think it's crap or not. When Corral gets there, then we'll see.

Bailey Zappe is on the practice squad. Matt Corral is on the 53. This status could change in a few weeks but by default Matt is ahead in the pecking order right now.

To answer your question - Corral needs to be added to the 53 to be claimed off waivers. To move any player to the practice squad from the 53, they would need to go through the waivers system unclaimed. So I don't see this happening for Corral yet again. The "IR" stash that some suggested might be viable but he'd have to come down with an injury to goto IR.

Not having a backup QB ahead of week 1 is flailing around

Our backup QB has not taken a snap with the Patriots ever. We cut all our supposed backups who spent the off-season with the team.

I get that he has to now be on the 53. I'm wondering what BB has in mind for QB2. I'm assuming he wouldn't put a game into Corral's hands at this early stage so somehow Zappe has to be elevated. Then, does BB go with 3 QBs or does Corral somehow get stashed to await his fuller development? If he's to be stashed then somehow he has to be slipped onto the PS or he gets IRed.
