2022-23 Playoffs; The Quest for The Cup

Another Boston choke job. Good teams close these series out at home.

Boston played a decent game. Outside of maybe Pasta and their net minder who clearly misplaced his.

I look at the Celtics and Bruins right now and see championship talent. That hasn't changed. But the big question is how bad do they really WANT it?

The Bruins might get a greater benefit of the doubt at this point but last night was disturbing.

I think Pasta is hurt. I looked like he was laboring coming up ice. Slow. The Ullmark thing was dumb.

They sure seemed lethargic for a close out game. Did they hang out with the Celtics the other night?

they look off to me. Ullmark has not been great in the two loses and the team chemistry just feels off. The Panthers actually think they have a chance now and that is dangerous. Hindsight says we should have started Swayman last night...no way you can go to him now

Ullmark has to be carrying something as he's gone from a point of difference strength to a liability. Been horrendous.

Why?

With the one that was taken off the board, the Bruins will have to score at least seven goals tonight to win. Crazy

There is no putting lipstick on that pig. Florida fully believes they can advance. Only bright side, winning game 7 always makes you stronger, especially in a difficult spot. but you have to win it.

I have no idea why Ullmark has decided to abandon his precision approach and try the Tim Thomas method but it really hasn't been working out for him. Yes. there have been giveaways and starting Cliffy ahead of Griz really didn't work out but Ullmark is straight up pissing down his leg. Coughing up unnecessary rebounds, dropping to his knees with the puck on the outside constantly, grossly out of position and flopping is hardly representative of the Vezina quality performance we saw all season.

Montgomery has to be considering if it is realistic to start Swayman in a winner take all game after 6 games on the pine. OTOH how can anyone feel good about starting Ullmark right now?

Losing this series would go down as the biggest postseason choke job in NHL history. No pressure.

I saw that he didn't start six straight games at any point during the regular season, how unusual is it for teams to switch up their strategy in the postseason like that? Guy might just be exhausted

In the playoffs teams change up all manner of things including their goaltending rotations, not unusual for a team to ride a 'hot hand' in net.. That said, Boston had a genuine rotation going from the time Swayman returned from injury, there's no question this workload is the heaviest Ullmark has seen. One could also easily make the argument he's far from hot right now.

This team mortgaged everything at the trade deadline to make sure they take the Cup. If they blow this it’s historic in more ways than one.

You're definitely more plugged into this team than me, who would you go with in game seven?

FWIW even at the risk of sending the kid's career into a tailspin I'd go with Swayman. TBH though, to keep something akin to a rotation going I'd have gone with him in game 3 or 4 too and they won those. To me, the rotation was an important part of what made their regular season what it was and a 2 to 1 ratio would have made for a fresher Ullmark in a potential 7th game. Of course that's just my uninformed simp 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' logic. Montgomery and Essensa are in that room every day and they don't seem prone to making 'gut' decisions, there must have been some reason they broke the rotation. Now if they switch they run the risk that Swayman has gone cold.

Sounds like that would have been the right play for sure. Doesn't seem like there's an obvious choice now--feels like whoever's in there the team is going to need massive intensity, particularly defensive intensity, to limit Florida's chances

if they gag this we're talking all time choke job...up 3-1, most points in history, w 2 games to win the series on home ice. this will be up there, or worse than, Aaron Boone, Bucky Dent, Bill Buckner, 07 Pats....
