Joe Judge 2023 role clarified

I'd be okay with HCA - Head Coach Assistant.

Ya know, fetching pencil and paper for Bill on game day. Squirting water bottles into waterboy's mouths so they can continue to hydrate others. Wipe down the weight equipment. Direct traffic after home games out of the stadium.

From my Interpretation he's just saying it as it seems Mayo was overstepped.. I felt that statement the team put out.. was bunch of smoke n mirrors anyway... however nothing we can do about it we don't write the checks at Gillette..

Read the quote from Breer above. Everyone else is jumping on the bandwagon, sounding alarms, and posting emotional stuff about a situation that does not exist.

Here is what Breer is reporting:

According to Albert Breer, Judge will now be in an ‘assistant head coach’ type of role on the Patriots coaching staff, that will include “personnel elements” and “some parallels” to the role Matt Patricia played as a senior advisor to Belichick in 2021. Most importantly, Breer reported that Judge will “work closely with Cam Achord and Joe Houston on special teams.”

So the role, not title, is like an assistant head coach in that Judge will work closely with the special team coaches while not directly coaching the players.
Well that does give some ease knowing that he won't have anything to do with Mac and the offense..

Thank you for that piece of information.. I had commented on it..

I wonder how the other coaches feel about him based off what was mentioned in the article. Him disrupting other position groups with his two cents had to have rubbed some people the wrong way. I know McCourty said something lates last year basically praising Daboll in NY and kind of indirectly slamming how Judge did thing there so it seems some of the players may not love him either.
Yes!! Your exactly right on everything stated about him.. he was saying guys he knew at the Giants were saying that dabol was such an all around Better person and coach then anything judge was when he was there.. @One-If-By-Sea put out the breer article of his clearly defined role..

So Judge will be the stand-in whistle twirler watching Achord and Houston work the ST. If he keeps his nose out of other things that might work out.

I'm still leery about the possible cloud of bad vibes lingering with some he crossed last season. I'd rather he cleared out.

Being a FoB certainly has its benefits.

We need special team coaching AND playmakers after last year. BB is adding the players and I think we will see a couple of 6th round ST only draft picks. Cam Accord could use some help as well.

Not sure why people are freaking out. This article sounds great to me. Joe is not directly coaching any players, he is basically just being Bill's little helper with contractual stuff and providing some assistance with getting the special teams back to where it should be without direct involvement. This is a demotion, that sounds like a promotion based on the title, but is a demotion. When a coach is not doing any coaching, it's a demotion.

I don't think this has anything to do with Mayo. We all assumed Mayo would get an Assistant Head Coach title just because it was one of the few logical job title changes he could receive that wouldn't make him the actual defensive coordinator, but that was always an assumption and him NOT being the AHC is not any kind of slight on him. We have no reason to think Mayo was expecting that title and then had it taken away. I'm sure whatever his title or role will be was established between he, Bill and Kraft in January and we are just not privy to what that is.

McCourty mentioning how Steve Belichick walked into the defensive backs meeting room day one as their coach and said something along the lines of "Hey guys I have no idea wtf I am doing. My dad just told me I am the coach now." That definitely seems like a bad look that I am sure Bill (and probably Steve) would rather have not had out there.

Cue Rick Pitino sound bite.

Belichick (and Kraft) have lost their ****ing minds. Joe Judge is a totally LOSER!! I don't want him near anything important, which according to the IBWTers, everything is important, so this clown should have been sent out of town on the same bus as Patricia.

Yeah I saw an article about that. Using that as an example of coaching nepotism.

And I was like clearly whoever wrote this knows nothing about the NFL. BB did the same thing on offense with Judge/Patricia, 2 coaches that aren't his kids.

We signed a few ST aces and got Cody Davis back as well.. him

Wow, McCourty has been on a tell-all lately.. I absolutely love it too!!

This is great news. Special teams should be better

When I first saw the thread title I thought it was Jerry Jeudy's role clarified. :( But I see a pattern with the J's ie... Juju - Joe Judge and Jerry Jeudy make it happen. :)

Who cares about titles.

The important thing is BOB runs the offense and Archord gets oversight.

Just win baby.
The Big Lebowski Thank You GIF

My complete hack-job guesstimate on the situation:

I see the "coaching" part of his job as limited to coaching two people only: Cam Achord and Joe Houston.

The rest of the job is doing lord-knows-what at a desk, but it ain't coaching, just a "you're still on the Giants' dime so might as well make you useful somehow" type of deal.
