Player Signing Patriots sign OT Calvin Anderson

He's part of a POSSIBLE solution, not the answer to the problem.

He's got some athletic ability, good length, last year (according to PFF) he had just one penalty in over 460 snaps and accounted for just 2 sacks. I'm not sure what it means but his overall score was .688. I don't know if that's good, average, or bad. He is SUPER smart, a mathematical economic analysis major at Rice, who was a Rubic's cube prodigy

This is a camp guy competing for the swing tackle job. The denver coaching situation was as bad as ours was on offense, so who knows how he'll react to good coaching (assuming Klemm IS as good as he is reported to be.) Could be a diamond in the rough. Could be camp fodder.

Yes, and guess what they are going to have to pay onwenu eventually.. OL contracts are through the roof... in other words... he gone!!!!
It's not a dazzling transaction but using some cap this & next year and extending Onwenu wouldn't be a bad decision right now.

Thank goodness! This signing along with the tender to Myles Bryant will certainly put Patriots Nation back to a calm and restful sleep tonight!

Definitely agree, and I know the organization knows this.. it almost feels like maximize everything out of a player under his rookie or UDFA deal and then let them walk in FA.. onwenu was what a 6th rounder? He probably our best OL

I don't know too much about Calvin but what little I have read indicates that he will work hard which is more than we can say about one of the guys that will soon depart from New England.

McDermott got a #4 tackle kind of contract. If they cut him and sign him to the PS, it’s basically the equivalent of the old strategy of paying a PS player an active roster salary. It just has to be done via signing bonuses or guarantees now because there’s a cap on PS salaries. If he has a good camp, then they can just keep him on the roster.

I’d expect Anderson to get more of a #3 tackle contract, probably with guarantees that all but lock him into a roster spot. Having McDermott as #4 and Anderson as #3 requires finding another starter, though. I’m not completely convinced that they’re going to wait until the draft for that.

Yeah and that's being nice... he was decent his rookie season, but yeah... his attitude sucks .
Actually he was IR'd his rookie year but to your point was OK in 2019 and had moments in 2020 and 2021. Hell he even had moments in 2022.

Just an erratic, space-cadet with zero focus with a 'tude and didn't give 2 ****s about getting better. Entitled useless puke.

If we're talking OL ... Who's going to be the surprise camp retiree?

I assume him and McDermott would be battling for the swing tackle spot.

Anderson's not built to handle the Right side; not nearly enough sand in his pants for the Swing role... He's a Left-side guy all the way.

He's our starting LT in my mind as of today... Trent Brown just CANNOT play that position any longer. Period.

Ok got it! I keep forgetting was drafted in '18 right? Under scar he was pretty solid. As you said he never cared about getting better and all the injuries piling up..

Another thing that keeps getting lost in the shuffle is my man Andrews is getting older and has had some injuries..

I'd like to grab a center in the draft to learn under him..

They’re totally going to sign Xavier Su’a-Filo, who has Klemm (UCLA) and O’Brien (Texans) connections, and then he can retire shortly after that.

STARTING LT????????

I'd like to see the contract...
