I'm critical of Tavai not because he makes bad plays. But because he does not have the athletic ability to cover adequately. In zone he can never get deep enough. Always too slow when a back goes in motion. It's not his fault.

Not every team attacks us by isolating Tavai. Most think they can go downfield. Miami, Buffalo and Baltimore have all attacked us by going underneath. Not many other teams have.

The craziest thing is that the Bills McKenzie is the most hated Bill by Bills fans, but he's an All-Pro against the Patriots. Why is that? Why can't he do that against other teams?
You need to add Bentley as well
Just too slow in zone coverage always dropping deep and the rb gets a first down on a short pass
We had Myles Bryant on mckenzie, i think this explains your question

I don't get the hate for the guy.

I guess people would have prefered them to draft Devin Lloyd in the 1st, same Devin Lloyd that has allowed nearly 700 yards receiving
Tavai has 60 total tackles (33 solo). Most of the players around 60 tackles are S, CBs or DE. Do you really believe that Tavai is in the same class as the below LBs because PFF has him ranked ahead of them?

F. Oluokun, JAX leads the NFL with 162 total tackles (115 solo), 1 sack, 11 TFL, 3 PD, 2 FF, 2 FR.

R. Smith, BAL 145 total tackles (87 solo), 4.5 sacks, 10 TFL, 5 PD, 3 INT.

C.J. Mosley, NYJ 142 total tackles (86 solo), 1 sack, 4 TFL, 6 PD, 1 INT, 1 FR.

B. Okereke, IND 129 total tackles (83 solo), 4 TFL, 5 PD, 1 FF, 2 FR.

J. Hicks, MIN 123 total tackles (84 solo), 3 sacks, 2 TFL, 10 PD, 1 INT, 1 FF.

S. Thompson, CAR 116 total tackles (70 solo), 0.5 sack, 8 TFL, 4 PD.

J. Jewell, DEN (11 games) 116 total tackles (61 solo), 2.5 sacks, 7 TFL, 3 PD, 2 INT, 2 FF, 1 FR.

D. White, TB 115 total tackles (67 solo), 5.5 sacks, 8 TFL, 5 PD, 2 FF, 1 FR.

P. Queen, BAL 106 total tackles (71 solo), 5 sacks, 8 TFL, 6 PD, 2 INT, 1 FF, 1 FR.

Here's someone we're familiar with:

E. Roberts, MIA 93 total tackles (58 solo), 3.5 sacks, 8 TFL.

There are dozens of LBs that are better than Tavai. Bentley belongs in the same class as these LBs, Tavai doesn't. He's a STer and back-up JAG LB.

BTW, Lloyd hasn't allowed 700 yards in receptions. He's been targeted 72 times which is crazy for a LB. He's a rookie so it's not surprising he would be having coverage issues. I'd still take him 100% of the time because he's got a higher upside than Tavai ever will.

@Kontradiction what's up with Lloyd down in JAX?

Without a doubt. I think our future cb's will be Mills, Jack, Marcus and Jonathan if we decide to resign him. I'd expect us to draft or sign another cb via free agency. Wade has been a big disappointment this year and we saw it last week again with him giving up a td in his limited time on the field.

It would be good to have a taller outside corner for receivers like T Higgins. Maybe even, dare I say, Gilmore who has lost a step but the taller bigger receivers are usually slower anyway.

We need a shut down corner that's at least 6'1". Jack Jones is our best CB. JoJones, MJones, Mills, Wade, Bryant all getting exposed against elite receivers.

It would be great to have a taller outside corner - I agree.

The reason elite receivers are "elite" is because they beat almost all corners. "Getting exposed" by an elite receiver is common because, by definition, they are elite, so nothing is being exposed.

I do not think they deserve it if they beat Bridgewater, but I will watch the game and root for them.
There are a few teams that don't really deserve to be in playoffs, but they are. The Chargers are 1 talented, underachieving team with a Talented QB .

If this team somehow stumbles in.. it's going to be very interesting.. the defense is thier only hope!

The Chargers have a horrible OL -- otherwise they'd be much better

Slow start but he’s started to get more and more playing time. The Jaguars also drafted Chad Muma, who usurped Lloyd for playing time. But it looks like a light is beginning to click on for Lloyd because he’s been all over the field for them the last 3 weeks or so.

Rashawn slater and then JAGs on thier O line. Bunch of big names on defense, but they don't all play together well and to thier potential. Darwin James great player always injured due to his playing style. However as far as us.. think of this we have a rookie stud that plays on all 3 phases and makes plays in all 3 phases.

M. JONES has a TD on defense, ST and offense. That's mind blowing all in one season. This kid is special and once o'Brien gets to work with him he'll flourish. I don't know what's more hard to watch a media interview with Patricia or us in the red area..

Tripped up the last 2 games, let's hope for some patriots magic from the past for a win against Miami.

With as many targets as he has, were they using him in other roles aside from iLB?

The question of if J.Jones gets big $ deal to leave in FA?
He'll be 30 at the start of next season, most teams won't see him as a top outside CB, and I think the Pats will want to keep a solid homegrown DB in the secondary to continue leadership when DMac retires (I'm guessing this year). I don't think he'll be demanding JC Jackson money in the market. I can see Pats making a competitive offer to keep him.

Question is - does Mills stick around? Or do we enter next year with M.Jones & Jack Jones as our 2 starting Corners?

Zion Johnson isn’t a JAG
