I don't know. I think the easy answer is "he criticized the playcalling to the media so he gets benched", however I could also see a situation where Belichick took the longer week to have a team meeting and try to get to the heart of the dysfunction, come to an understanding on the frustrations and try to start fresh and not hold grudges, at least for one week.
