Patriots Player Departure Shaq Mason traded to the Bucs

I agree. But, Belichick wouldn't have paid that much.
i agree, the IOL guys got some nice deals. Cappa 4 years 40 Million is a lot if you look at Mason's 2 years 16 Million with mason being at least equal if not better

Just spitballing a theoretical possibility:

Collins and Brown at tackle
Owenu and Wynn at guard
Andrews at center
That is exactly what I was thinking as well. What do you think of it Dues?

I’m shocked at how low the compensation is. A 5th rounder? Same with Mankins only netting a 4th plus a throw in. Shouldn’t a starting offensive lineman who is still playing reasonably well net something other than a day 3 pick?

look how many 4/5/6 round picks are starting on OL's around the league.....on rookie contracts

This off-season seems like a faulkimg disaster. Is belichick trying to faulk over kraft?
Let make this a stickie of this post to look at for next FIVE MONTHS of free agency which hasn't even started.

After all, Game One must be this weekend. Or perhaps it is not, but the team won't make any transactions to improve the team in the net five months.

Any
???

Belichick is quite able to find guards in the 2nd or 3rd or 4th rounds.

And he could sign 2 guards for $7M of cap room, of he pushed money inti later years.

Joe Thuney was a 2nd rounder
Shaq himself a 4th
Ted Karras a 6th
Andrews Undrafted
Stork 4th.
Koppen 5th I believe.
Stephen Neal was undrafted
Brian Waters undrafted (not a Pats pick, but one of the better guards they've had in BB's tenure).

Only first round guard they've taken is Mankins, and that was at 32. There are a handful of positions I trust them to restock longterm no matter where they're picking, and guard is one of them. Whether one they draft is ready to start in 2022 is still a gamble of course.

I wouldn't mind if we'd kept Karras. This seems to make no sense at the moment. Suddenly we're down to 2 returning starters at their position from last year. Now, 100% counting on Wynn and Onwenu to be 17-game rock solid studs like Karras and Mason were. Not a solid plan!!

They must really trust Hambright and Sherman to be ready to go. And it sorta tips the hat on draft plan - OL will be big priority.

another person who thinks that our first game is in March
This is the only reason I am not seriously upset. I know he will figure it out, but from my desk I am going

That is exactly what I was thinking as well. What do you think of it Dues?
I think it would make them very dependent upon injury guys staying healthy, which means that I think they'd be investing a chunk more on the OL, targeting a combination of drafteed and backup level FAs.

so reports are that the Pats didn't want a gap In the draft and they didn't have a 5th rounder....so they trade mason for a 5tg

That's BS Mason is was our best OL

Bill, why do you feel the need to test my faith like this!?

So….both starting guards are gone? We can do this!

Resign Brown and shift him to LT
Move Wynn to LG
Onwenu to RG
Acquire La'el Collins to play RT

BOOM

I am not loving the trade, but PFF should never be used for an argument on the quality of a player. Especially an offensive lineman.

And even if you DO put stock in PFF, there is next to zero chance Belichick puts any stock in it. I'm not even saying that this trade was influenced by performance, but I'm sure they have their own internal scouting metrics that they use, and we'll never know what those say.

I ****ing hate it...but I probably won't in a month or 2 when the dust settles.

BB Kool aid drinkers would disagree.

Of course they would, but so would rationally thinking human beings. "Openly tanking" is hyperbolic nonsense.

I was thinking he might possibly be worth a late 3rd round pick, or perhaps a 4 and change.

Always kind of funny that people think our players are worth so much. Then when they don't bring back as much it is always, Bill gave them away. Just perhaps, we over valued how good they were.
