Edit: yup
Don't sleep on Shaun Wade.We need 2 outside Cbs for me to feel comfortable... just saying
Based on what, exactly? There is 2.15 in Amortized bonus there already. But Unless you know exactly how the rest of the contract is structured, you're pulling the $5.88M number out of your rear end.$5.88 million would be the cap figure with the two voidable years already on the books. It was scheduled to be $6.45 million of dead money before the deal. $507,000 of additional space.
Will be interesting to see the structure of the deal, Rapoport says 1 year $9m. Fatmancryin is right that the 2023/2024 void years that would have been accelerated to 2022 were worth $4.3m. So either — 2022 cap charge is $4.7m higher than it would have been but you actual get the player, and there would be a $4.3m void year hit in 2023. Or some of that $9m was paid as a signing bonus, which would lower 2022 cap charge but would raise 2023 void year charge. Either way, Pats are paying an extra $9m in cap charges in 2022 and 2023 to have McCourty on the roster this year.Yeah, I think I've mentioned a few times so far this offseason that I was pretty sure McCourty would be back for at least 1 more season. Due to the voidable years on his contract, if he did actually leave, his future year hits would accelerate onto 2022's cap and cause him to have a fairly decently sized amount of dead money. By signing him this year, they will at least still have him on the roster for their money.
I'm curious how exactly this deal works out and whether his cap hit is equal or less in '22 than what it would've been if he left entirely (I'd bet it's less) and also what his cap hits in future years now look like. Perhaps they kicked the can down the road a bit further with void years.
Either way, happy to have him back - while he's clearly not the same guy he was, he also hasn't fallen off entirely like Hightower has appeared to. He's still fast enough and smart enough to be a decent free safety and they didn't really have a replacement for him right now either. Plus, obviously, he's a locker room leader.
Im treating him as a rookie, ill wake up once good TC reports roll inDon't sleep on Shaun Wade.
Yeah, Mike Reiss mentioned those 3 guys specifically this morning as being very likely to resign, and less than 12 hours later McCourty’s already back. I think someone (Kraft) fed Reiss some info and we should expect the other 2 guys back in the fold pretty soon.Looks like they're re-signing Slater and Hoyer also. More of the same isn't going to move this team further along than what they were last year. I guess we'll see how much more McC has in the tank.
Yup, my guess is they are going to use this to keep the player at a position of need plus also gain a small amount of cap space in 2022 where they're tight. They might have a cap hit next year/further out than that which exceeds the $6.5M hit he would've previously had in 2022, but they have $110M in projected cap space in 2023 right now so they would probably prefer to eat it then. Will be interesting to see the structure of the deal, Rapoport says 1 year $9m. It's a guarantee that most of the contract will be signing bonus. That way they can push 2/3 of it out and reduce McCourty's cap number. My guess is the Vet Minimum for someone with his service 6M in SB and then the rest in incentives.Yup, my guess is they are going to use this to keep the player at a position of need plus also gain a small amount of cap space in 2022 where they're tight. I agree. I would be fine with a free agent AND a first round draft choice. We need 2 outside Cbs for me to feel comfortable... just saying
