I made the mistake of listening to barf radio today. I heard listener and 'hired gun" alike talk badly about the Pats WR position. Happy to hear I'm.wrong but I believe Meyers is being wrongly dismissed. This guy might not be a WR1 but am I wrong to think Meyers gets 85 rec for 1000+ and 6+TDS? He runs clean routes and cannot be covered! I believe we're fine at WR even with drops Agalor or anyone else. Still far superior to what we had last year (considering the TE improvement, the RB room boom, and a QB that even with a broken arm WILL throw for more than 8 TDs).. What say you?

How could he be uncoverable, yet not a #1 WR?

He’s a nice find, but he’s not there yet. The passing game will be predicated on the efficiency of the ground game. WR/TE’s will get open off of play action similar to SF. If you like an old school offense, this is what we’ll probably get - run, run, run and then take your shot through the air.

With that being said, him catching for 1,000 yards is not out of the question.

Hey rainmaker - I don't disagree and think I titled the thread incorrectly based on your position. This kid is special. I feel it in my bones. WR1, WR 1A or whatever ... we have plenty of weapons to get it done this year. I just hate that the pundits look at our additions to WR and forget this kid grows leaps and bounds every year. Dude is a stud and by years end the outside world will know it.

I read somewhere that he beats man coverage over 70% of the time. He's not your field stretcher, but he's a number one move the chains guy. We have Agholor to stretch the field. Between those two, Bourne, White, JJ, Stevenson, and our two TE's, I have no doubt Mac is going to be able to move the ball. Hopefully we see Asiasi come up too. He had some nice catches in the preseason and it was just Cam inability to get to his later reads.

He definitely has talent and was overlooked in the draft for sure.

Read that too and it's easy to see for a anyone (even without expertise). We have plenty on offense! I was just "tweaked" by the guys on talk radio today. I get it's their job to boil my blood, but they did all the same.

Nice player. Is what he is. (On the 2007 team, I’m afraid he’d be quite low on the depth chart)

I feel like he, NA & Bourne will be the top WR options, but I’m hoping the TEs are the true #1. And I’m hoping the run game is strong.

(In Superfans mode) In Meyers's breakout game against the Jets week 9 (12rec / 169yds on 14tgts), Cam started out 12/12 and 20/21. With a significantly better QB in Mac out there, I'm thinking 22 recs in a game for the record at some point in the next few years.

Meyers is a good wide receiver that makes plays. I don’t think he’s that traditional #1wr that they are probably referring to. Overall on paper. there are some concerns still about this wr core. Bourne, Agholor, Henry and Smith are all fa’s. They might have done well with their other teams but they still got to prove they can do it here. I look at Gunner and I just don’t see it. He is a good returner but other than the 3 wr’s mentioned, I don’t think Slater and Gunner fill the bill. So yeah, you could say the position is shallow from first glance. Hopefully Harry, Wilkerson and ixon find a way to step up.

I hear a lot of talking heads and other teams saying we have a bottom 5 receiver corps. Receivers aren't the only pimple that catch balls. We are middle of the pack receivers. But overall we have a top 10 offense if Mac does his job, top 5 if he lives up to the hype

I'm trying to TAMPER (previous title thread) / Temper my expectations, but damn am I excited for MAC. If we're top half of the league on offense that will be a great season. He can't possibly throw for fewer than 8 TDs, right? That was painful.

Even in Superfans mode this is bold. Two Pats have hit 16 (Troy and Wes) ... Next up is a logjame @ 13 (Mostly Welker and Edelman, plus 1 each for Branch and Glenn) ... But, it would be nice.

I don't think many give a rats ass about single game success. You win! Meyers will NOT have 16 rec this season. He WILL be way better than most expect. BTW. This thread (aside from bad injury) WILL end VERY WELL!

He strikes me as the WR that will thrive off of the TE's being the potential #1 threat and be a mismatch for CB2/3, or at least gobble up top coverage so those a touch lower on the depth chart can thrive in matchups.

YES YES YES! But if they focused on him he's still "pulling. 5 for 70". He WILL do better
